A lot of work, but very very worth it!

So...I have never sewed anymore then a few stitches to fix something. So when I set out on this adventure I was completely out of my element. My wife mentioned last year that she did not have a personalized stocking. So I went on Amazon and found one. I worked on it off and on for about 11 months to finally finish it yesterday November 17th 2021. Im writing this review for the novice, not the experienced. It was a lot of work, but my wife could not be more happy with the finished product. And she is was even more flattered by seeing how much time I spent working on it. I think after a good break I'm going to make another one for my new niece coming into the world soon, and have it ready for her 1st Christmas in 22. Also, many people said they were missing items in their set. Mine had nothing missing. But I suggest having a few spools of primary color thread to help the project along, red, white, black.

Great colorful design but difficult to make

This is not for beginners. It requires a crafty person with patience. Not easy to put together. Instructions are too detailed and a bit messy. The colors are beautiful but the felt is thin.

Not Bucilla Quality

I have made three other Bucilla stocking kits, but this is the first time I ordered via Amazon. At first, all seems good, however upon beginning the project, the quality of the product doesn’t seem like the best quality. Lots of broken beads and half-sequins and the embroidery thread is pretty bad and is hard to separate plus it tangles/knots easily which isn’t typical of Bucilla kits. I’ll stick to ordering from the Merry Stockings website in the future.

When my boys were little I purchased similar kits and made their stockings. This was my grandsons first christmas and my son wanted to do the same for him. We looked online - found this kit and purchased it. My son worked diligently through the nights for two - three weeks and got the stocking done on christmas day. He said he didn't realize how much work was going to go into making it but he was very proud of his accomplishment and I think his son will be proud when he is old enough to realize what his dad did for him to make his first christmas and christmas's after special. My son actually found the stockings I made for him and his brother and replaced the stockings I had for them with their childhood stockings. It was a sentimental christmas.

Plan to spend about 100 hours on this project

This stocking was fun to make, but very time consuming. The kit was short on some of the sequins and beads, so I had to go to a craft store to get more. The directions were OK, but if you are not proficient at embroidery, look on line to get better instructions on how to do various stitches. The French knot was the most difficult one to do.

Felt Quality

Amazon did a great job getting this kit to me. I did have a problem when I opened the kit. The white felt was less than superior quality. In some places it was very thin. In addition the printing on a few places of the white felt (identifying where the pieces fit on the stocking) was very light. Obviously there is considerable white felt used in this stocking. I am concerned about the long term wear of the white pieces. All the other felt colors were of typical Bucilla high quality. I have gone ahead and made it but hope in the future Bucilla checks the quality of the felt they put in their kits.

Lots of little parts to stitch, but beautiful when done.

This is the fourth stocking I have made using the Bucilla kits. This one was by far the most complex, and was made more difficult because the quality of the embroidery thread. The thread kept unraveling and breaking, so ended up using the leftover thread from another kit. Once I started using that thread, the kit was much easier to finish.

Will last a lifetime

My mother bought similar kits for us and put them together for our first Christmases, stitiching our birth year on the stocking, we have used them every year. I am now in my 30's and they are still looking beautiful. This year by youngest brother announced his girlfriend is pregnant, and I was so excited to find these. I have given a kit to my mother to make for her first grandchild. I hope we can carry on this tradition with all of our kids, and I am so thankful these kits still exist.

Read all directions before you start. Each piece needs to get attached in a specific order.

This is the third stocking kit i have purchased. They are Beautiful! Arrive within days of order. Everything you need is in the kit. You do not need to know how to embroider as instructions are also included. I did find it easier to watch you tube videos to learn the stitches. Makes a wonderful, lifelong keepsake for my grandchildren.
