Great coffee, very easy
I normally use the Aeropress, and when I saw this on Kickstarter, I could see it is very similar, so I backed it. Still waiting that delivery, but I do understand their logistical problems with their first factory keeping all their equipment they'd had made to manufacture these. In the meantime, I wanted to try this version that they've made to in order to raise the funds to get the remaining manufactured units from China to the U.S. The box is nice, attractive and professional. Definitely not a low-end copycat French press. There are air pillow in the box to protect the thermometer and hourglass--nice touch, as well as a nicely-printed instruction card. I've never made French press coffee before, except one time. although I've had it a lot. So the fact that I was able to brew a literally perfect cup of coffee on the first try is saying a lot! It didn't leak--I can see if you don't screw the bottom on properly, it could, or if you don't have the O-ring on securely, but mine was secure. The one comment I have for improvement--and this is a French press N00B here--is indicate whether you should put the lid on with the opening lining up with the spout or not when you press it. I did, and I did have a little bit of coffee come out the spot--just a small spoonful. Maybe this is self-evident to those who are used to French presses. All in all, it's a great little press, and I hope they stay in production, although this looks like it will last years.

Pour Quality
I have had this now for about two weeks. It was cheap, so I thought I would give it a shot. I read the reviews about the leaking base, and thought I would give it a shot. But that is actually not my main issue with this. I was in the market for a french press that didn't have the typical double-mesh filter. I find those harder to clean. I wanted one with this style; one mesh filter with the silicone rubber gasket around the edge. Here are the issues I have with this. 1.-Thermometer - This thing doesn't work. With the water boiling, it never said it was hot enough. So I tried to use that twice, and simply gave up. 2.-Gasket - I never put this thing in the dishwasher, and always stored the plunger in the base. Mind you, I use this daily, but the gasket has gotten permanently warped and now lets a large amount of coffee past the filter on the plunge. This didn't happen at first, so I can only attribute it to storage. 3.- Timer. The magnet that is in the press itself, fell out after a couple of uses. Again, never put it in the dishwasher. I guess the glue doesn't like the high heat. I put it back myself with super glue, but that too fell out after about another week of use. So two weeks after use I have a thermometer that was junk from the get-go. I have a plunger that lets 10% of the coffee pass through due to the worn gasket, and the timer magnet that won't stay glued into the press. Lesson learned: you get what you pay for.

good cup of coffee with less mess
Update 6/10/2019: I've used this a few more times camping - I am still super happy with it. I haven't had any other trouble with leaks; it seemed to have gotten easier with use. It helps us conserve water while camping since we don't have to rinse it out several times: after pouring ALL the liquid out, we let it dry then knock the grounds out into our garbage bag. The coffee it makes is really, really good; and it fills two large mugs (we drink a lot of coffee). I don't really use the timer or the thermometer, but I guess they're nice to have. Original review: I am fairly happy with the press. It was a little tricky figuring out how tight the bottom needed to be screwed on. The first time I used it, it did leak a tiny bit. I'm guessing this is due to the very nice seal on the filter and the flexibility of the plastic used. Tightening just a bit more next time seemed to fix the problem, and backing off the pressure as needed. Normally, the dregs of a fresh press leave a little grinds in your cup (especially if pushed down too fast), but there was hardly anything and the coffee had a rich taste. Cleaning up was a breeze. That really makes it worth it, I'm looking forward to using it in my camp kitchen this summer.

Works great if you don't need the timer attached.
This is great for the price and convince of plastic and not glass. The one problem I had was that as soon as I poured hot water into to it the first time the disc for the magnetic timer to attach to came off. Now I use the timer on the fridge. Otherwise I love this product.

Cleans up easily.
The magnetic slug that holds the hour glass in place came out after about 2 days. We weren't using the hour glass anyway, as we make coffee while doing other things, and use a phone timer instead. The Rite Press makes great coffee (as expected from a French press), but then it's so easy to clean out. Just unscrew the bottom and dump the grounds from there. Be careful that you don't cross-thread when you put the bottom back on, and screw it on tightly. Once I didn't get it tight enough and drops of water started leaking out. I was able to just tighten it then and all was fine.

Very Dollar Storeish
After being one of the kick-starter backers for the original Rite Press that went bust, I still think the idea was a good one. I lost my money but knew from the start that could happen. I saw this plastic version and since it was $11 and with my Amazon points $0 I bought one. Yeah, total waist of the points. The thermometer doesn't work. The press part is very flimsy and doesn't get far enough into the bottom for a single cup of coffee. The pour spout sorta runs in a gush. The handle is weird, just a very cheap curve of plastic. I do like the idea of the removable bottom for the grounds. It would be better if the press went further down. I haven't experienced any leaking from the bottom but because of other reviews I and very careful when screwing on the bottom. The feel of the whole thing is very cheap. I took it to work as back-up for the coffee maker. At home I will stick to my Starbucks press.
