Sturdy, Solid, seems like an cool concept
So I got the pump, no issues, shipping with PRIME was great. Shipped to Virginia Beach quickly. Took it out of the box, and was immediately impressed, it has a sturdy, heavy feel, but not overbearing and to where it seems like overkill. I hooked it up in my 2002 Trophy 1903FK center console with the three wires required to connect the pump. Continuous 12V positive, ACC 12V positive from the Trophy main panel for Bilge pump, and finally common ground. I secured the connections with water-tight/resistant fittings. I immediately noticed the pump had a "check cycle" like I expected from the literature. This click noise would automatically check for the presence of water on a 2.5 minute cycle or something, I could here the pump "click" with a faint click, so it seemed like it was working. I set the base with the screws provided in the location of the previous Johnson Pump, without issue, although after fully seating it, the pump still has a little wobble and I am concerned about the lifespan in rougher water where I may actually become airborne in my boat over rogue waves in the Atlantic. We will see, maybe I will disconnect the pump and try to tighten a little more before braving the ocean, and getting a broken base on the pump. The biggest problem I have noted thus far is that the pump didn't actually kick on automatically when water was inserted in the bilge area up to mid-line on the pump. My conclusion at first is that I didn't hook it up correctly somehow for it to cycle in an automated fashion, because when I initiate the bilge switch from the Trophy main panel the pump kicks on and pumps the water with so much force (It's a powerful pump) that the water exiting the boat clears the boat by 3-4 feet.... I need to figure out if I hooked something up incorrectly using the existing trophy wiring, or do I need to run a new line from some location currently unknown... I'd give it five stars but I haven't got my boat in the water and had the automated bilge function kick on yet, so I will give an update when I have it all figured out. T

Great pump
I have been using one of these bilge pumps for the last 4 years. A lot of people don't like these pumps because they turn on every few minutes. I was skeptical, thinking that this pump will kill my battery. This is not the case, it draws such a minimal amount of power and has never been an issue. The pump comes on for a few seconds every few minutes. If the pump doesn't sense water (higher amp draw) then it shuts down. If it does sense a higher amp draw (pump is pumping water) then the pump stays running until the amp draw comes down (not pumping water). The thing that I like most about this pump is that when the engine isn't running I can hear this pump run every few minutes. This lets me know that the pump is working and that there is no water in the bilge. The pump is not loud, but I can hear a hum. It is also good to have the pump running regularly, this insures that the impeller is not jammed. This pump is a three wire pump so it can also be operated by a switch. The only issue I have with these pumps is the mounting bracket. The tabs that the pump clicks to can be broken off easily. I think a new bracket is $10, but they shouldn't break so easily.

Automatic Bilge Pump
I bought this 51S Digital Rule1500 Automatic bilge pump @ end of Oct 2017 finally installed last week in my 2014 HewesCraft Ocean-Pro. I put the inline fuse located near my battery just today Easter 2018 but before I installed the fuse I filled the bilge up with fresh water and that pump kicked on right away and pumped the bilge dry, Then about a minute later you can hear it kick on for maybe 2 seconds it did not sense any resistance so it shut off immediately. I like the idea it comes on about every 20 seconds, when the guys are washing down the deck I really know this pump will take care of the water. And just in case it does not I installed a Johnson 1200 automatic bilge pump but it is not low in the bilge so it won't kick on unless a real emergency. Be sure and secure this pump as it is pretty tall and I don't mean just securing the strainer base plate either, put a couple straps/twine to prevent it from swaying.

They last 1 year.
I have purchased two of these, only because I have not found a better solution (but I am searching!) The first one I installed and it worked perfectly for right at one year. Then it died. Dead - no go - nada. I evaluated everything trying to repair it but it failed internally. So if your looking to buy one of these realize that it is best as a backup bilge pump not a primary. That is my use - a secondary pump. I would never trust this a primary and I do plan to install a better solution as soon as I have time to locate one!
