How to easily remove the outer plastic using heat. A hair dryer will work for this task.
Amazing product! I have used several rolls for numerous applications and after years it still holds up well... even on my roof in the AZ sun. With my first roll I too had issue with the outer plastic sticking to the roll but figured out that by using some heat, the outer plastic could be completely removed in a few minutes. A common hair dryer can work. Split the seem on the outer plastic and open the center so that the packaging plastic can be worked from both ends AND provide something to grab onto while removing. With this 4" x 50ft roll the weight of the product was enough to separate the outer plastic from the sticky edges when the heat was applied. Work in from the outer edge while heating until free into the middle, then proceed to remove all the way around. Be patient, work it slowly because if torn, that outer plastic will become hard to grab onto an edge to continue with the removal process. IMPORTANT: Once removed, cover the exposed edges with a tough, clean plastic that will not tear when pulled off. I used simple $1 store place mats on earlier rolls, on this recent purchase I used a couple clear plastic covers intended for a sheet of paper, (see photo).

Tough, easy to apply, and super adhesive
From my experience with this tape the negative reviews are way off base. I had zero problems removing the role of tape from its packaging and found the tape to be quite tough, easy to apply, and super adhesive. My application was a 65 foot seam between a fascia for a roof of insulated panels over my patio and the "super gutter" the panels mount on. In heavy rain, the water level in the gutter could rise high enough to "wick" into this seam, leading to water drips from further wicking up the connections between roof panels. Closing the seam did the trick for eliminating the wicking. Since the fascia is hidden from view, I used 4' lengths of this stuff to close off the seam. Overlaps are not a problem since this stuff sticks to itself as well as it does to any surface. Since the backing that covers the adhesive is very easy to remove, I just pulled the backing off of each piece, carefully lined it up, and pressed it into place. If my seam had been easily accessible, I would have stuck down one end and pulled the backing as I applied the tape, eliminating the need for a lot of cuts (and producing a much nicer appearance). The tape is easy to work with once you understand that the adhesive is really strong, so tagging down the first inch or so is all that's needed to unspool tape along a seam pulling the backing off as you work your way down the seam. You just have to be careful to get the initial placement right. Could duct tape have worked? Maybe, but unlike this stuff it would probably have failed pretty quickly due to temperature extremes and moisture. Duct tape also wrinkles easily, which this stuff doesn't. Moreover, this tape claims to hold up to a temperature range from -40F to 170F, which means the heat of the sun on my roof won't compromise it. Once correctly applied the stuff is impervious to moisture since the adhesive is a butyl rubber compound (keep in mind that butyl rubber is used for inner tubes). Correctly applied means the surfaces you apply it to are clean and dry, which is necessary for any tape to work. One last thing: you don't want to use scissors to cut this stuff since the adhesive will quickly mess up scissors. I used a razor knife with a piece of scrap lumber under the tape as I cut it. That worked great and unlike scissors you can toss the razor blade when done.

Great thick rubber tape for fixing leaking roofs and other such projects
This patching material is the absolute best for patching a leaky roof, which is what I used it for. I actually used it to patch a hole in the shed roof caused by a limb that broke off and poked a hole straight through the roof. Used a piece of flat aluminum to span the hole, then the tape over it in cascading layers from the bottom up - making sure the tape overlapped the hole for several inches on each side. It all went without a hitch -- other than the tape is extremely sticky -- sticks to the fingers of your gloves - but that is manageable. -- Above: one of the questions is: "Easy to Remove" -- which is a most absolute ridiculous question. It is NOT easy to remove -- and that's the whole point of its design. Once it's applied -- it is NOT coming up again without a lot of work -- so be very careful to apply it correctly the first time. This tape is highly recommended for repairs where water or moisture needs to be prevented from causing a problem.

Super Sticky Tape Seals Leaking Rip
I ordered this tape to use on our vinyl pool cover since over time it has become brittle and developed a rip. After reading all the reviews I was prepared for the challenge. I started by using the Label Side as the starting point and cut a x pattern and then worked it off both sides of the tape, going slowly to remove all the plastic wrap. The RIP was at the very end of the Automatic Cover which was closed. I could not place anything under the cover to keep it from contact with the pool water so there was One Small Leak after application. I had one picture of the cover after the first patch was applied but that has been lost, if I can locate it I will share. This picture shows the first tape Under the new application. We were able to fully open the top a couple of days ago and I applied more tape after cleaning the vinyl and placed a Longer Piece of the Tape on the RIP and it worked Perfectly! The picture shown is the Pool Cover after the patch and after the top was closed and as you can see it Stuck and is Not Leaking even though it is now in contact with the Pool Water. The Pool Cover is now Protecting our Pool from debris and rain water and I couldn't be Happier with this Product. It has done Exactly what I hoped for. It is tricky to Open, if it had a Label ON BOTH SIDES it would be easier to open but once it's ON it IS WATERPROOF and Sealed my Vinyl Pool Cover rip and will now protect the pool from acorns and leaves until the replacement cover is installed. I'm Very Pleased with this purchase ????
