Simple Beautiful Inexpensive

Oddly enough, I bought this to set my toaster on inside my cuppoard so I wouldn't have to get the vacuum out to clean up. But it is so lovely, I plan to use it as a 'sides' or 'apps' platter when I have 3 for supper. It's sturdy and a great price.

This melamine serving plate is attractive, has a glossy finish, and looks ceramic almost. I'd venture to say it will look ceramic to any casual observer. Its uneven shape gives it a rustic appeal. My measurements show it's just shy of 12" in length and about 7.2" in width. Keep in mind that at around 12" x 7", this is a fairly small plate. I mention this because the pictures on the product page gave me the impression it's a good-sized serving platter; it is not. The back of the plate reads: American Metalcraft Inc. [No] Microwave Made In China CP12 (Plus, a fork and stemware symbol to indicate the material is safe for use with food.) (Plus, an X'd-out microwave symbol to indicate the material is NOT microwave safe.) The plate is lightweight. No surprise there since it's melamine (a type of plastic, for the uninitiated). Melamine is prone to scratches, so the plate needs to be washed and handled with care. Remember to NOT microwave this because the fumes from heated melamine is deleterious to your health! Also, experience has taught me (before I knew better) that microwaving melamine makes it brittle over time. Another thing: I'd recommend using this for cold foods only such as fruit and cold hors d'oeuvre. I do feel this is a bit overpriced for what it is. However, if a lightweight serving plate is important for you, this is a viable alternative to a ceramic plate.

No Clouds But Very Nice Platter

This is the perfect platter for serving cheese, crackers, and other snacks and looks perfect in any setting. It also works as a great luncheon platter or small dinner plate. I don't eat a whole lot at a time so it works for me. It's very attractive but, I was disappointed in thinking it had a blue/green tint to it with little clouds which put the word cloud in the descriptive heading. And it kinda looks like there are little clouds in the photo when, in fact, it is flat white. Other than the lack of color and clouds, it is really quite nice and actually better quality than I had expected.

I ordered this because I wanted a little plate for my office kitchen and this looked like the perfect match for the kitchen colors. It is NOT greeny-blue as shown in the picture. It is in fact, white. The plate is a nice material that feels very sturdy which is perfect for daily use, just wish the color had been true to the pictured image. The plate is 12 x 7 so a decent size for appetizers.

Smallish platter

I now have this platter and American Metalcraft's "round" serving bowl. I put quotes around "round" because it's not any shape that my high school geometry teacher could put a name to. Like its "round" companion the interior of this platter is a bit wavy but it's really not noticeable unless you hold it up at eye level. I guess it's melamine but there's no indication on the platter or the packaging that tells you that it's melamine (legal reason?). The bottom has symbols showing that it's dishwasher safe but not microwave safe. It is a bit on the small side but OK for some items or for small servings - dinner for two sort of thing. My first use was to put spring rolls on it and it was perfect.

White and Simple

I can always use another platter to serve food. The American Metalcraft Platter is pretty basic and simple. In the pictures online it appears to be slightly bluish green but it is just white. It's a great size for serving at a small gathering. My daughter has just started to learn to make sushi and this platter is perfect for serving her sushi rolls. It's pretty simple but classic. It's easy to wash and fits in the cupboard.

Plain, white platter.

I was really expecting this platter to be a light blue-green color. The "cloud" color for all of Aerican Metalcraft items appears to be aqua online, but in person it is WHITE. While the white color is fine, it is not what I as expecting. Either thee online photos should clearly show a while color (maybe with a dark background), or the color should be renamed to "white". I know clouds are generally considered white, but the name, along with the misleading blue-green photo lead me to think that this product resembled the colors seen on a cloudy day (light blue-green). The plate itself is nice and seems to be of high quality, though kind of plain.

Heavy duty plastic with plenty of uses

Even though it is a little smaller than what I expected, I see practical uses for this platter. Make of a hard plastic and measuring 12 inches long and 7 inches wide, it is the perfect size for grilling and serving hotdogs, fruit, cookies, or preparing a single serving of cheese and crackers for one. You will definitely find uses for it. The only downside is that it is not microwave safe.
