Decent device (and a beginner's guide to fertility tracking)
I used to think I hated this thermometer until i lost it and got another one. This is a rock star by comparison to the Eudemon basal thermometer. I am shopping for a new one and I will probably buy this one again. Here's what I hated about this thermometer: 1. It's very hard plastic it's not very comfortable 2. The button is really hard to find and push 3. No back light 4. It seems to take forever to get a reading, which is no fun when the probe is uncomfortable 5. The opportunity to view the last valid temperature is very brief during the start up sequence All of those things are still true, however there are two things that make this a really good thermometer: 1. It's reliably accurate. I get a good reading to .01 degrees every time 2. It stores the last reading until it detects a new valid temperature I can't tell you how important these two factors are for tracking your BBT. You need a good reading every day at the same time. It should be the FIRST thing you do, before even getting out of bed. I set my alarm for 5:45 to take my temp. I usually go back to sleep for an hour or so afterward. I LOVE that this thermometer stores the reading. The Eudemon one flashes the last temp briefly and then that value disappears into the ether. If you miss it, you miss it. With this one you can keep trying to read it until you get it right. You might break a nail in the process, because the button really isn't designed very well, but you'll get that all important reading. It does come with a journal for tracking your temps. I recommend using a software such as Ovuview or Fertility friend which allows you to track other symptoms to help achieve or prevent conception. If you're looking for a basal thermometer, you've probably dug around the internet for information. But here's a quick guide to some of the acronyms you'll come across: AF - Aunt Flow (Menstruation) BBT - Basal Body Temperature BFN - Big Fat (or any other F-word you'd care to insert) Negative BFP - Big Fat Positive (See above for F words) BD - Baby Dance (Intercourse) CF - Cervical Fluid CM - Cervical Mucus CP - Cervical Position HCG - Human Chorionic Gandotropin (Usually referring to a pregnancy test) LH - Lutenizing Hormone OPK - Ovulation Predictor Kit OPT - Ovulation Predictor Test The menstrual cycle is a fascinating thing. A 28-day cycle does not necessarily mean that ovulation will occur on day 14. Timing can vary from woman to woman and month to month. Tracking BBT is important to understanding your fertility. Your BBT will show a significant rise after ovulation as a result of a surge of progesterone. It will remain high until just before your period starts (if you're pregnant, it won't drop and obviously menstruation will not occur). Some women show a slight dip on the day before ovulation, however that is not a guarantee. Tracking BBT is a great way of detecting when ovulation has occurred, but it is not a great tool for predicting ovulation. (Unless your cycle runs like clockwork, but that's actually kind of rare and a calendar would do just as well.)

Does the job
My first thermometer so I didn't want to spend too much money on something I wasn't sure I would regularly use. It's a good thermometer. The beep didn't bother me at first but has become a worry I will wake my partner and I do wish there was a backlight to make reading the numbers easier as now into fall, the mornings are darker making it hard to read. But still an accurate thermometer I will continue to use.

Excellent thermometer - UPDATE 8/21/2015
I purchased this thermometer last week and have been very pleased with it. I use it to take my basal temperature each morning. Pros: - quick start up and temperature reading - beeps when it's done reading temperature - automatically turns off when not in use - one button operation (I consider this a pro because I take my temperature before it's light and before I'm fully awake, so streamlined operation is key) Cons: - the unit does have memory, but it's a bit misleading. You can't 'access' it (one button operation, remember). Instead, when you turn the unit on, it flashes the last temperature reading, then calibrates to 97.70, then flashes "Lo" to signal it's ready to read. The problem is that it flashes through pretty quickly. The only way to see it again is to (without taking a temperature) turn the unit off/on again. - not back lit. I don't consider this a huge problem since I just wait to read the temperature until daylight. *****UPDATE 8/21/2015 So I've had this thermometer for about three months now and I'm having to purchase another one. My darling cat likes to push it off my nightstand and she's done it one too many times I think. When I picked it up off the floor this morning, it didn't display correctly. Some of the bars in the digits were missing so that I couldn't tell if my temp was 98.23 or 99.23 or something else. Anyway, the thermometer is priced well enough that I don't mind purchasing another one. This time, I'll keep it inside a drawer away from my mischievous cat's paws. For the record, I do not fault the thermometer for this as my cat really does like to push it off. She's pushed it off my nightstand at least twice a week (onto hardwood floors no less) since I first got it. I'm still very pleased with the product, just advice other cat owners to keep it somewhere safe.

Easy to use, good thermometer.
This thermometer is very easy to use. I have been using it daily for about a month to track Basal Body Temperature. I like that it has a nice, hard plastic case that it comes with, which keeps it clean and protected. The tip of my thermometer did break off fairly quickly, but that was because my 2 year old found it and dropped it on a wood floor, so I can't fault the company for that. It still works fine, the battery is just more exposed. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish it had a backlight on the display. Since the temperature has to be taken immediately upon waking, before getting out of bed, I take this with the lights off. I often have to get up for work much earlier than my husband, so the lights are not on in the room yet. Since there is no backlight on this, I cannot tell what the temperature is without taking the thermometer into a room that has lights on. This is not a big deal, but this thermometer would be ideal if there was a backlight. Amazon's "Verified Purchase" indicator shows that this review matches an actual product ordered and delivered from Amazon. I have been working recently to try to write detailed reviews based on my actual experience with these products, as a wife and mom in her late 30’s. If you have found this review helpful, I’d love if you’d indicate that below. This would help me greatly to know if I am making a difference with the effort to write better reviews, and be a better member of the Amazon community of buyers.
