Finally found the best for what it is!
I tried multiple mandolines. I have a nice De Buyer which I love to use, and it cuts the most even slices of any mandoline I've tried. BUT, it's BIG, harder to clean and simply not a mandoline I feel I can just grab, go and be done with it. So, for everyday use I was on a search for the best mandoline available. Took me a week of research. Buying a couple, then returning them. I ended up with 2. The professional kitchen approved timeless classic Benriner Japanese cheapo, and the more expensive and sturdy build Rösle. I reach for the Rösle 90% of the time. It just slices, but that's what I need everyday. And because it's stainless steel, it doesn't attract any smells from onions and I love that. A quick rinse under the faucet is all it needs. It's easy to dry and be done with it. It literally takes me seconds so slice an onion, and no crying either, ha ha ha.. The Rösle cuts CLEAN and fast and the included hand guard works great for when you need larger items, cutting them down to the last slice. I believe this will last me years, so it's worth every penny. Because of the lack of videos and reviews on this slicer, it get's pretty much no advertising or praises online. Too bad, because THIS is the best of them all when it comes down to just slicing. For Julienne or lager style fries style potatoes, I use my Benriner, which I also love. It's much smaller, it's plastic but sturdy. It's super sharp and what I may use on occasion for smaller veggies. It's worth checking out too for sure, though for just slicing the Rösle can't bet beat. In order to get an even through slice, the only Benriner that works is the smaller one the 3. The design allows for the plastic surface you're sliding the veggie across to give when applied pressure to it, causing uneven slices. The small one, the issue is almost non-existent.

My Search Is Finally Over!
I usually don't write reviews on things...but in this case, since this poor slicer has none, I feel compelled. I have been searching and searching for months for a slicer that is: 1. hand held and portable / relatively small 2. sturdy and made of quality materials 3. has a high level of craftsmanship 4. has replaceable parts available 5. has a hand guard that works 6. is not as expensive as a full size mandolin 7. WORKS WELL This slicer is all of the above, and looks nice and sleek as an added bonus. I didn't realize how difficult it was to meet these criteria for this type of product! I have purchased and returned several cheap and less-cheap plastic hand held v-slicers/mandolins that never felt quite right to me in one way or another. The second I took this one out of the box, I had a good feeling. The rubber tip at the end doesn't slip around, allowing me to brace my work on a variety of surfaces. The adjustment knobs that control the width of your desired slice open and close easily, and firmly. I don't feel as though I am wrestling for balance with this slicer, it just slices -- wonderfully. I sliced fennel, a watermelon radish, and and apple, easily, very quickly and in a variety of thicknesses. I don't doubt that it will be able to slice any fruit or vegetable I attempt. The hand guard is impressive -- it covers the entire surface (width-wise) of the slicer, and allows you to slice the entire piece, because the middle piece with spikes (which grips the food) can be pushed down as you go, allowing what you are slicing to stay in contact with the surface and blade of the slicer. At $65, this isn't the cheapest slicer out there...But I am fed up buying stuff that breaks or cracks or doesn't function as it should, and prefer to save and invest in a few nice tools that will function, hopefully, for the rest of my life and beyond. This is my first time purchasing a Rosle product, and I don't think it will be the last. Thank you German design and engineering!

Best Cheese Slicer
I have had one of these for probably 10 years, and just bought a second one for our motorhome. It is so easy to use and and wash, it make's a clean cut on the cheese. The length is long enough to cut an 8 oz block on the wide side. I love this and will never use another cheese slicer again. I have never broken a wire even after using my old one for 10+ years.

Vegetable slicer is good not great
It would be so nice to have the reviews separated by the item being reviewed. Most negative reviews are for the cheese slicer. I got the vegetable mandolin. It works great and is easy to use, but there was one disappointment...the whole mandolin bent just a little after 15 min of use, and I was surprised. I thought it would be sturdier for this price. Still, unless it actually breaks, I expect I will get a lot of use out of this.

Cheese slice
Great product for softer cheeses such as Danish breakfast cheese. Do not use on cheddar which broke the last one.

Great slicer
Lovely. Some have complained about the serrated edge and the marks it leaves on the cheese. I don't mind that at all. It's very sturdy and I even use it if I'm frying little things in a little pan to turn them over.

Very good slicer
The slicer is great, with great adjustable slices. The slices go from very thin to a decent width. The blade is very sharp, and the construction quality is very high.
