Great two player game

Great two player game. Two different types of play style.

Small, yet clever and highly strategic trick taking game with a great theme

Although this is at its core a card trick taking game, it is devious and unique. The theming of it is spot-on and it comes with a small board and a beautiful token to keep track of Mr. Hyde's chaos. Most Trick taking games have a similar feel to them. This one however adds some clever twists. The order of the power tokens changes from round to round and even within a round which has an effect on card ranks. Each player has his/her own objective: To either create order or chaos. And, having a lousy round for a player doesn't necessarily mean that the game is lost. It is just as possible to turn things around in another round. The game is not lengthy which is perfect for what this is. It is both long enough and short enough at the same time which makes it ideal for a second game in which the roles can be reversed. This is by far a superior game in its genre. Highly portable and possessing that addictive quality that makes players keep coming back for more.

Great twisty card game

This is a fast learning card game with a twist! One side is Jekyll and the other is Hyde! It’s fun to play and quick, you could play several hands while waiting on supper! The card quality is nice, too!

Great 2-player Trick Taking Game

I love this game. It really gives my brain a workout as I try to remember what my goal is and how I might try to achieve that goal. Plenty of strategy and a lot of fun. I highly recommend this as a great 2-player game, which is small enough to travel well and quick enough to play over a cup of coffee on a quiet Sunday morning. :)

Two-player Spades in a small box

Finding games to play with my non-gamer wife is always a challenge. If it takes more than 5 minutes to explain or 30 to play, she's out. Jekyll vs Hyde has been a hidden gem in my collection. The simplicity of the rules and the depth of the strategy is what makes this game an excellent two player game. On the surface, the game is simple: One-vs-one spades. The game is played over three-rounds, each consisting of 10 tricks. The player acting as Dr. Jekyll attempts to keep the number of tricks won by each player as close as possible. Hyde will try to make the difference as large as possible. At the end of each round, the marker on the Evil track will advance by the difference between the player's scores. Over the three rounds, if the marker on the Evil track ever gets to the last space, Hyde has won. Under the surface, there is so much going on. Players will set the relative value of each of the three suits as the game progresses. There are powerful "Potion" cards, which players can use to shift momentum mid-round. While Hyde on the surface seems straightforward, a viable strategy is to lose every trick. This game is a perfect blend of simple and strategic, and great for couple's casual gaming and hardcore gamers alike. The rules are simple, and it plays super quickly. It's easy to play one game, switch roles, and play again within an hour. If you're looking for something to do with your partner/friends rather than just sitting and watching TV, this is a great place to start.
