Did Not Filter Chlorine

I would like for there to be a less expensive alternative to the OEM Kenmore 9002 filter. However, this filter did not do what it advertised it would. It didn't filter chlorine. I was able to test it alongside the Kenmore 9002 filter, a Brita-on-Tap filter, and a regular Brita pitcher filter. I used the smell test - when you pour tap water into a cup or a pitcher, you can smell the chlorine if you know what to look for. I also used a pool ph test strip to test for chlorine. The test strips indicated that the chlorine level for the Water Sentinel filter is virtually identical to unfiltered tap water although for the tap water the total hardness level seemed to indicate that something was being filtered out with Water Sentinel. All the other filters I used filtered out chlorine. This Water Sentinel filter did not. So you are paying around $22 for something that doesn't do what you think it is doing. You will likely not notice since tap water is safe enough for most people to drink, but all you have is just a conduit for you to get cold water from your fridge, not something that filters chlorine. Also, the water flow was advertised to be exactly the same as the Kenmore 9002 filter, but actually, it was noticeably higher than the Kenmore 9002 filter. Since I was getting that higher water flow at the expense of lack of filtering, this is another indicator that the filter they have inside is very thin. As of now, I don't know any third-party filters that work for my fridge. I do know that the Kenmore 9002 works, and that this filter does not. So I would not recommend this filter. (Note - The Kenmore 46-9002 filter seems not to be available here anymore. But there is a new filter called Whirlpool Everydrop 8 that seems to be like the old 46-9002 in effectiveness. The 46-9002 and the Everydrop 8 are the only filters that I've tried which work as advertised.)

Filters water, and removes chlorine smell/taste

We have "city water" so our water is pretty clean, no mud or rust issues, but we do have a fair amount of chlorine in the water. This filter does an adequate job of removing chlorine. It clearly has activated charcoal, as the first gallon or two you run through the filter comes out with small particles of charcoal in suspension. So you will want to run some water through the filter just after you install it. It fit well and did not leak. And the price was competitive.

I like it

Of course I like this filter, who wouldn't like clean water. Unfortunately, the manufacturing process in making this and many other products pollute the water so we have to keep buying more. Which in turn create a need for this product, and when a product is needed, the price goes up even though it probably cost very little to make. So I guess the main reason I bought this filter is because its the cheapest I could find. But it works just as good as the name brand.. Thanks

Very happy with this water filter

Once I installed this water filter, I could immediately taste the difference in my water from the fridge dispenser. I was hesitant in ordering it because of the low price, but I think I made a good decision. There seems to be no difference in this water filter and the Kenmore 9002 that costs about $50 or more. I recommend this water filter.

Water flow less than Whirlpool OEM

Bought on price, water flow runs slower than OEM product from first day. usually run filters for 11 to 12 months never noticed a slow down with the OEM, 10 months in service and flow is getting a litter slower and may not get the same life as the OEM's. First time with aftermarket brand, have had the machine 10 years.
