Cute idea for the grandkids
Two granddaughters liked making butter, however, it took a good few minutes to do so and then rinsing the butter had to be done with cheese cloth to make sure all the milk was washed out.

Sweet creamy butter
Chuckled when I bought first one of these, thought would be fun to do with my granddaughter, a novelty. However, no one was more surprised than I was when the butter started to form, was able to tell by change in sound of liquid sloshing in jar. Delicious, creamy butter. Sure beat all those hours I spent churning as a child on the farm. Have purchased multiple. Highly recommend. Bang for your buck.

Coolest thing ever!
Love that I can have fresh butter in a few hours! Super fun and rewarding! Know I know how my butter is processed!

A Word of Caution
This product was just delivered today and I am now working on my third batch of butter. The product is as expected, the strainer feature is handy, as is the built in carafe. But the instructions tell you it only takes two or three minutes to achieve fresh butter and that is completely false. Having made butter with plastic water bottles prior to buying this product, I knew in advance it would take longer. So the smaller the batch you make, the faster it will churn into butter. But, if you add the full one cup capacity of cream, it will take at least 20 minutes to churn, perhaps longer depending on your arm strength.

Great Idea, Poorly Executed
As a first butter making device, it IS simple to use, but results in a TERRIBLY FINICKY process that yields uneven, inconsistent results. Container ramekin doesn't seal sufficiently, hence it ALWAYS leaked, losing approximately 1oz if cream required. Strainer is fused to container making it VERY HARD to clean, and unless super hot cleaning solution is used, it's ALWAYS slick and hard to hold onto. For those with bad wrists unable to shake the container to separate solids, it's ACTUALLY PAINFUL to use.

I like the concept of this tool
I like the concept of this tool, and I enjoy most of Chef'n's very smart products. The idea is that you can make a small amount of butter in one container, without having to use cheesecloth for straining. It works, to a point. I made two batches of butter in it so far, and was able to use both. Simply set one cup heavy whipping cream out for 6-8 hours, then poured it into the butter maker jar. I shook it for a short amount of time until the butterfat solidified (only about 3-4 minutes needed). Strain off the buttermilk from the sieve side of the jar, and save if you wish. Then, using cold water, run several batches of cold water through the sieve, until full, then pour it off. this rinses the buttermilk from the butter solids, so it keeps better. The more buttermilk you get off the butter solid, the longer your butter will have before it goes rancid. once you're getting a clear rinse, you can pour off the last liquid, then open the bottom part of the container, and tap the jar gently until most of your butter drops into the bottom dish, which doubles as a serving dish. I stirred in salt gently at this point, with small spatula. However, the product contains directions for making honey butter and garlic butter during the shaking stage, which I haven't tried yet. Upsides: 1. delivers on the promise of an essentially one-dish process free from cheesecloth and additional strainers and dishes. 2. kinda fun, and often I have to buy more heavy cream for a recipe than I really need, so this is a nice way to use the extra. 3. tastes pretty good, you can season to your taste and leave out any nasty added preservatives or emollients. 4. you can culture the cream to get a euro-style cultured butter. I tried this by adding a spoonful of greek yogurt to one batch, and the results were just fine. 5. only makes a small amount, which is great for just one person. I only bake occasionally, so I don't need highly-preserved pounds of butter waiting in my fridge for the next project. by using this, I have cream for my coffee and enough butter for toast and other small uses for a week or so. Works for me. The downsides: 1. despite seeming well designed for the most part, it DOES still leak the tiniest bit when shaking. the first time it didn't, but the second time it did. only the tiniest bit, but maybe wrap in a towel or paper towel to absorb any drips and keep them from flying all over your kitchen. 2. only makes a small amount. It turns 1 cup of cream into about 1/2 cup butter. The cream I bought cost $3.99 for a half-pint (organic heavy whipping cream from Trader Joe's) A pound of butter at the same trader joes was listed at $3.49. So unless you source your cream from a very cheap location or own a dairy farm, you're not saving cash. 3. does still leave a bit of buttermilk in the butter. you'd do well to squeeze the butter lumps in a paper towel to get as much buttermilk out as you can to keep it from going rancid. 4. one-use tool. However, when working with dairy, you kinda want a one-use container to keep clean and dedicated. and this doesn't take up much space. I'm a fan of chef'n's other tools, and they've done a great job for a pretty rare need in most cases. But now and then you can put some nice bread and butter appetizers over the top with this, and if you can source your heavy cream cheaply and well, then you've got a nice, workable easy kitchen project.

Works well but takes a lot of both time and effort to get the butter
I feel like my arm is about to fall off when I use this and it easily takes me about a half hour to actually get butter. It doesn't take long to get to where the entire jar is filled with solid cream and nothing moves with each shake but then you have to keep shaking and shaking and shaking till it clumps up and separates and even then you want to keep shaking to keep separating. It feels as if nothing is going to happen when it's all solid cream but you have to keep going till you feel a clump bouncing around and after that the more you shake the better. I'd love to find an electric churn of this size but all I can find are about 1 to 2 gallons and up. As I find this butter maker a bit too tiresome for me, I tried the magic bullet and it does start to separate but at that point you have cream with a touch of butter and if you keep going, the magic bullet homogenizes the butter back into the buttermilk as it separates so you just wind up with buttermilk with the butter homogenized back in, however the butter flavoured cream makes a tasty spread. I think the best bet might just be to use an electric hand mixer unless you want to really exercise your arms with this butter maker.

good
tough the size is small, it is very easy to make butter. one problem that I have observed is, we use thick creamy curd to prepare butter, you will not be able to pour it from top as the holes are small, you have to open the bottom. if you do so cream leaks.

It really works!
Fantastic little devise. Really easy to do. I have arthritis in my hands but I can easily do it. Read the reviews. What everyone says is the cream has to be at room temp for 6-8 hours and I find 8 hrs is optimal and that extra 2 hours makes it much easier and faster to churn into butter with a 3 minute vigorous shake. Squeeze out the buttermilk in the ramekin provided but then I also dunk the whole patty in a bowl of ice cold water to squeeze out remained buttermilk and its then good to season and eat. Delicious! Best is that you can regulate the amount of salt you add. Be careful to put the top seal back inside the hollow, right at the top of the yellow container or it will leak. Great. Highly recommend. I bought two and love them.

Great little gadget
I bought two of these so my husband and I can shake together This is a great little gadget it does take more than 3 minutes for your cream to separate into butter but it does work good . I have dairy goats so using raw cream may be why it takes longer but it still doesn’t take much shaking to get there . The only thing you need to watch is it has a really thin rubber gasket in the yellow bottom piece where the white ramekin screws in that you do need to remove when cleaning and make sure it is put back in or it will leak . My first time cleaning it I had no idea it was there and almost lost it in the soapy water
