The battery cable must be connected to the BATT connection in the front side of the sign
If you connect the battery cable to the back side connector where it's routed and looks like it should be connected the emergency lights will stay on all the time. You need to open the front side of the sign (the side with the red exit markings) and there you will see the connection marked batt. If you connect to that the sign will work correctly. This should be much more clearly marked. It appears like you should connect to the rear connector but if you do that the sign will not work correctly. I'm posting this so that others won't have to spend the half hour I spent figuring this out.

These are remote head capable
I am a professional electrician. Modern building codes require exit doors to have external remote lights mounted above the door. For some reason these fixtures are hard to find and expensive when you do find them. From reading the reviews I was almost certain that these would support remote led lights. After installing them I can say for certain that it works! On the circuit board you need to make sure you are plugging the battery into the correct terminal. The side mounted lights should already be plugged in. The remaining 2 plugs can be used for remote heads labeled r1 and r2. In order to use the remote feature you need to buy separate heads and a pack of JST XH 2.5 2pin female plug pigtails. You will also need some low voltage cord like 18/2 cl3. Overall it was worth the effort as these are much cheaper than other remote capable fixtures.

Great at this price point. Not the best but does the job.
These units do what they are supposed to do. The housing is a little flimsy but they work. They aren't as bright as the more expensive models but that may be a good thing depending on your application, as some exit signs will light up your space like a red-tinted ballpark. Tip: Remember to plug the battery's pigtail in before you reassemble the sign. Otherwise, they won't work.

Making the lights not stay on
This lights work as it should if you have the lights staying on you need to make sure the plug from the battery is plugged in to the slot battery not R2.

Exit light turns off when power cut; Flood lights dim to unusable level
Do not buy. The product is unacceptable as designed. The illumination for the "EXIT" sign turns off during testing and when the power to the unit is cut. This illumination needs to stay on during an emergency. The user manual even says that this illumination turns off during testing. Flood lights are on all the time; it's not a problem for my application but isn't acceptable for all applications. During testing and when power is cut, the flood lights dim to an unacceptable level. Installation was a pain. Unsnapping covers is annoying. Cutout location for square box didn't line up correctly. Wiring inside the unit can obscure the "EXIT" lettering if you're not careful.

Side LED lights Remain on at All Times
It's possible this product is installed incorrectly because the side LED lights remain on at all times, power or no power, day or night. This was not expected and is a waste of energy. The LED lights should only come on when the power is out.
