Complete tune up kit

Everything you need to maintain you humidifier in one package. 1st winter in this house I noticed the humidifier wasn’t working. The humidifier appears to have been not in use for years and everything inside was brittle and falling apart. The kit had all the internal parts needed for the overall. Took probably an hour to replace everything. I ended up replacing the humidistat also but it was simple enough. The whole cost of the repair was probably less than a service call from a HVAC company.

Original equipment product. Not third party junk.

After many years of use, it was time to replace the guts on our whole house humidifier. Doesn't come with much in the way of instructions, but neither is it difficult. All you need for tools are two wrenches to get the old supply line off of the solenoid, and then put the new one on.

Easy to install 4837 Kit in our Model 560 Aprilaire Humidifier on our Carrier furnace system

So once you've been thru the Aprilaire videos, mainly produced by HVAC installers, the parts get familiar, and installing them becomes straightforward and quick, ie minutes. Particularly, what goes into the water supply side of the solenoid valve, and what gets installed on the other side. However, our result is that our indoor humidity never gets above 27% in the winter when our new Aprilaire humidistat is set at a 35%. So we are not sure if the system is actually working long enough to effect anything. It could be that the indoor humidity remains the same as near outdoor ambient less the effect of heating inside air, although we hear the solenoid switched on and water running (from the return air duct on the first floor). The manuals need improvement, and that's why the videos are important. But I am entertained by what the video presenters leave out. Seems to be typical American speech that after one explains how to do it, they never say why - and we find that in our national news and some TED talks as well; the omissions/followups are just as important; so when you talk to your peer or teen, add a predicate to say why, and add safety and love as part of it as well. I particularly liked the small parts in big hands - the videographer needed to zoom in on the small parts, because all we saw was a fist; very SNL, and no learning conveyed.

I couldn't find exact brand replacements for my American Standard humiidifer installed in 2008. The old pad looked terrible even thought I scrapped mineral build up off it. New one is EXACT match!!

Value, but some set up issues

The plastic filler tube has a yellow spray adapter insert. If the water inflow is too strong, back pressure forces the tube out of the plastic filler attachment, which causes flooding on your floor. The black tube needs to have an attachment to hold it on the plastic adapter.

Exactly what I needed--saved me $150

I had a heating and plumbing guy come in and take a look at my furnace. He recommended replacing just the humidifier pad, an quoted me $198 to do it. I thought I'd poke around and see how much one of these bad boys cost a la carte. Not very much, it turns out. I think I saw this for $10 or $20 all by itself, but then noticed this whole maintenance kit for about $40 after shipping. Aprilaire's official website had it for sale, too, but for a higher price. I compared the two items and it appears that this kit has the same stuff as the one sold on the Aprilaire site. Either way, when I got the humidifier pad, it came with Aprilaire branded packaging. The other items were more or less loose in the box, but they were all the right parts. As I was replacing the humidifier pad (a $200 job, per the heating guy), I could easily see where the other parts fit into the assembly. I used all the parts in the kit except one. It took me about an hour. The kit came with the same instruction booklet that you can find as a PDF online, which was very handy. I'll probably buy more of these and do this once a year. Maybe not replace all the additional parts, but at least the pad.
