Childhood turned into a card game

Recommended playing solo as there is a Good Bit of reading, with couple big words ( so mindful of gifting to smaller children). I think as a party game it can get kinda boring having to read out loud as the text can be couple pages long. Overall I love the idea of recreating the books as a game.

I bought two!

I originally got this for my sister who loves and owns most of the books. It was so fun to play! We have played it multiple times. I loved it so much, I bought another to gift to another family member who loved it. I cannot recommend it enough!

Get the other one for co op

This game doesn't play as smoothly as the other choose your own adventure game. Still a novel concept and fun to experience

Co-op fun

Co-op choose your own adventure, you all decide as a group what to do. I like the board game aspect of it. Quite fun

Nice nostalgia but not a great solo experience

If you are solo, just reading the books may be a better experience. I can see how this would be fun with multiple players due to discussing your next moves. Solo, though, the charm of books - choosing your own adventure - gets lost in all the fiddly bits they added to make the board game. I’m extremely risk averse, and a fantastically poor dice roller, and so the danger meter mechanics basically rendered me paralyzed as far as taking optional risks. After the first ten minutes, I NEVER took an optional risk because the odds and penalties were so bad. And so the game wound up being mostly a slog. I would have had a lot more freedom to explore options in the book version. I also thought the psychic clue cards were not worth the effort worrying about collecting, so all of my caution with the danger meter was a waste anyway. Having said all of that, I thought the production level was fine, and I definitely recommend it for Gen Xers who grew up on these books. If you like it, there’s more - and if you don’t like it, at least you know from your own experience. This game is as replayable as the books are rereadable.

This was great fun!

I of course loved CYOAB (Choose your own Adventure Books) as a kid so this revival of the concept looked fun. The gameplay was easy and quick to learn in this game. The gameplay can be fast or last a couple of hours if you want. It is played a chapter at a time with a specific goal in mind to achieve a the end of each one. If you die, instead of like in the books, you take a small penalty, and then the game directs you back to the decision point(s) to try again. Its a great concept that can probably be repeated with all the CYOAB books yet we purchased the other available title in this series and that one seems to follow a different concept for its gameplay (I do hope its as fun). My 8-year-old had fun and so did my wife and I. Maybe some of the elements aren't for small children but my kid did fine. The footprint of the game is small requiring only minimal space for gameplay when compared to the average board game. Ironically, my only complaint is that it is A LOT of reading as it's just like reading the chapter books but this is forgivable. I would buy and am looking forward to buying many more titles as they become available.

The game cards aren’t always consistent when you move around in the game. It is fun & worth playing though.

Great fun

Finally got round to playing through the first chapter with my girlfriend and daughter. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for our next games night to play more. It’s nice to play a game when we are working together and making decisions. Will try the other title in the series at some point

Fun at first

An indepth, well thought out game that my partner and I had lots of fun playing at first. After a while though, we found it tedious & wasn't really fussed how it ended. Lots of choices & paths, which makes the game complex. Not recommended for children younger than 12 I think.

Awesome throwback to the classic choose your own adventure games from days gone by.

Great game,easy to play alone or with any number of players( we had 7 playing at my local board games group)lots of entertaining encounters throughout (a favourite being the banana monster) multiple possible endings and lots of replayability.
