Makes an awesome rocket lamp
The media could not be loaded. Used this as the main part of a rocket lamp. The body and base to this item are all metal. Protective grille is cast, so has some rough edges on the inner aspect - I liked the effect. Added a lot of parts from the hardware store, drilled a hole in the base for a 120v switch. The 0.5 Inch threaded holes worked well with both electrical and plumbing components. Ordered a 5 pack of candelabra bases from Amazon and threaded wires through elbows and super glued them in place. A fun, satisfying project.

I ordered a few of these for everyones favorite project. first 3 arrived in a box with other parts and are perfect, ordered one more and it arrived with a chip in the threaded portion, amazon sent a replacement and it too arrived chipped in 2 places in the threaded portion! be fine if I wasnt trying to sell these things. 3rd times the charm... EDIT: no idea what amazon is doing - 3rd one arrived with a shippign label slapped on the product box. Dang near fell out and is cracked down the side... As for the light itself for the price its fine. The cage is a bit rough cast with alot of burrs. The glass globe is really wavey and the threads dont really mesh well with the housing which is part of the reason for the chips i think and mainly rough handling. The threaded conduit holes are nicely threaded and that portion is great. The light bulb socket is ceramic if anyone is wondering. it does have a green grounding screw included and is already threaded grounding hole.

The fixture itself appears to be good quality and rugged enough for an area that it may come in contact with something. I bought 3 of them for my crawlspace where they might get bumped while working. It would be no fun to bump the back of your head on a bare bulb and have it break sending hot broken glass down the back of your shirt and have the light go out. These lights will keep that from happening. My problem is with the description stating you can use a 150 watt incandescent bulb. The fixture may be rated for 150 watts but good luck finding one that will fit. Every 150 watt incandescnt bulb I have found is an A21 bulb. An A21 bulb is about 2.6" in diameter which is too big to fit into the glass cover. If you installed the bulb without the glass it would fit but that sort of defeats the purpose of this fixture design. So the bottom line is you will be limited to an A19 sized bulb which will only be 100 watts at the most.

Good quality and easy to convert to solar
I bought two of these to install in a landscape project with a maritime theme and wanted to use solar vs electricity. I purchased some T-SUN solar lights on Amazon for the project. I disassembled the security light and removed the ceramic light socket. Using the existing threaded holes used to mount the ceramic socket and the screws from the ceramic socket I mounted the solar light fixture in it's place. I ran the cord from the solar light out of one of the threaded holes on the security light base and then re-assembled. Voila, a nice security light fixture that uses solar power!

A bit off
Was praised by client once he saw it lit up and mounted, fixture was great as pictured. Had a little concern about box K.O.s are a little crooked and the connector thread don't sit well on the box I suggest buy the fixture but don't use the weatherproof box buy it separately. I say 4 1/2 stars just because of the difficulty of the box K.O.s

These do mount to 4-inch round electrical boxes, but the instructions don't explain how.
These are sturdy, high quality lights. I mounted a pair of them in my garage ceiling because my kids are always throwing tennis balls around and I wanted to protect the naked light bulbs. Besides, I really like the industrial look these fixtures provide. My only complaint is the instruction manual, which did not make clear that in order to mount these to drywall ceilings and a conventional 4-inch round electrical box, the top part of the light fixture housing must be removed. That's probably obvious to experienced electricians, but not to a first-timer. When I initially tried to mount the fixture, I quickly realized the two screw holes have a 5-inch spread and won't mate to a 4-inch round electrical box. At first, I thought I had to purchase some sort of an adapter to make it fit, but upon closer inspection, I realized I had to unscrew a pair of set screws on the inside of the upper housing and remove the conduit-accepting upper part of the fixture to reveal a conventional 4-inch mount. But, that fact was not obvious to me without some poking around. There is no information about it in the instructions, so I wasted more time that I care to admit. The electrical connections were easy and straightforward, but if you're like me and have never hung one of these before, just know that the instructions don't volunteer much in the way of helpful information. In hindsight, it's clear that the upper housing that I removed is meant for securing it to masonry or a stud for security purposes and to make it vandal-proof.
