Works well for elderly with limited mobility

This works well for my mother with Alzheimer's. Check the dimensions of whatever plate you buy, I previously bought one that was child size from another company and sent it back. This one is about the size of a regular sized paper plate, perfect size for my mom. One side is more curved than the other, this is the side you put on the opposite of their dominant hand. (ex. Mom is right handed so she scoops the food to the left and the deep curve on the plate's side helps push the food onto the spoon.) I liked this plate so well I bought a second one. The plastic is not hard enough to use knives on repeatedly, so I suggest cutting the food up before you put it on this plate. We have put this plate in the microwave for short reheats, and have had no problems. The bottom of the plate has enough of a grip that I haven't had any troubles with it slipping around on her tray. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Arrived promptly. It is what it is, a plastic plate for 12.xx dollars. It is helpful for our 95 year old family member. She is able to scoop her food using one hand with the help of the sides on the plate. There is no rubber on the bottom. So far it has not slid off of her table, however, I do see the potential. I also purchased a similar plate for almost a $1 more. It is also plastic with the lip/sides. However, this one does have a rubber ring on the bottom. I think this will be helpful to avoid sliding off the table as she is using only one hand to scoop/slide her food. It is fine, it is just hard to take the fact that such a simple and cheap piece of plastic is so expensive. Yet thankful for the handy, helpful tool.

A purpose-built plate that works well.

These plates are expensive for what they are... i.e, a plastic plate. They are made of reasonably thick plastic and are sturdy enough, but the finish doesn't look like it would hold up to the dishwasher, so I wash the plates by hand. Also, using a knife to cut food on the plate will quickly ruin the surface. So, why five stars? Because the plates work very well to give my elderly mother, who is suffering from dementia, the confidence and the ability to eat with utensils. She can use the tall inward sloping "lip" of the plate to get the food on her utensils instead of pushing the food off the plate. And the plates are microwavable, so I can heat (or re-heat) her meals as needed. These plates are not for everyone, but they work well for my mother's situation and I would recommend them to anyone taking care of an elderly parent who has difficulty eating meals. I've tried many other plates but none that I've found have a lip that works as well as this one.

Needs a non-skid bottom

I purchased this for my mother-in-law, who is having trouble feeding herself. The scooped lip is definitely helpful, but without a non-skid bottom, the plate tends to move off the table and onto the floor or her lap. Other manufacturers have similar designs but with better grip.

Keeping glamour at eating

The plate makes it easier for me to try to use the spoon with out spilling food.

stains easily

The plate performs as shown and helps handicapped people a lot by keeping food on the plate rather than having to use two hands. A problem, however, is that the plate is melamine and stains when used with tomato sauce. I can't get the stain out after trying everything I can think of, and the plate looks dirty. Plate functions well, but don't use with foods that stain.

poor vision item

4 stars because of price but otherwise a good item for the visually impaired .The high edge makes getting the food to utensil easier without making the person feel that they need help all the time.Food is not lost over the side of the dish.Washs great!

I would recommend this to anyone who has problem with food sliding ...

This plate works perfectly for my Mom who just had a stroke and is eating with her left hand rather then her right that she was used to. It gives her the ability to eat by herself and not need someone to feed her. I would recommend this to anyone who has problem with food sliding off a regular plate.
