Love the lid and tray

Perfect size I was looking for. Only thing I would recommend is that it allow more room for more water in the bottom (increase depth overall) without the vegetables laying in the water. Previous method I was using seemed to soften vegetables more quickly than this does which would mean needing more water in the bottom to cook longer - or at least that's my perception. I like the depth of the tray itself and do like the product, just needs a bit of tweaking.

Perfect broccoli cooker

We use this for most dinners when adding fresh veggies to a healthy meal. It steams broccoli, carrots and cauliflower without overcooking. We add everything bagel seasoning before steaming for some additional flavor. *The seal gasket was installed upside down so the lid didn’t close until i fixed it myself.*

Works very well cooking.

Harder to empty the steam tray- strainer than I had hoped. Bits of vegetables get stuck, but that's just my elderly shaking hands. I also wish it came in a 3 liter size. The lid is perfect.

The thing is, I have not been able to get the lid fully on once since I opened it the first time. I have turned the lid every which way, but it just won't fully snap back in place anymore. Not sure if it's a defect or an issue others have experienced. Between this and the lack of handles, it's difficult to remove from the microwave without accidentally releasing steam, so be very careful. It still did work however. Steamed the veggies just fine. Also, if you have a small microwave, I'm not sure this will fit. It's surprisingly large. Easy to clean though. I want to give it more credit, but the lack of handles on the side and that the lid never did clip back into place (most I can ever manage is 2 of the 4 clips) takes away from this.

My new go to kitchen gadget

I have been trying to cook with less oil and this has really helped me achieve that goal. It’s easy to steal raw and frozen vegetables alike in this steamer and super easy to clean up afterwards. I can’t believe I waited so long to get this!

Great, but with design flaws

I have had this steamer for close to 10 years. It's a workhorse. Steaming is the best way to cook vegetables, to prepare vegetables for stirfry or crudites, and to reheat frozen vegetables. Microwave steaming is easier to control than stovetop, is energy efficient, and doesn't heat up the kitchen. In fact with many vegetables, you don't even need to add water when microwaving--they self-steam, preserving all their vegetably goodness. The Sistema steamer is sturdy and about as large as it could be to fit in microwave ovens and be easily stored. I use it multiple times every week. It's reasonably priced. You should get it! However, I'll also admit to two frustrations. First, don't expect the snaps to work as easily as in the video. Yes, it is possible to lock all four down, but it takes some maneuvering and pushing since at least one isn't quite aligned. This was true even when the steamer was new. Luckily, one misaligned snap doesn't affect steaming. Second, the steamer basket-insert has a big prong right in the middle of it--something that's not obvious in any of the images. Like the metal steamers meant for steaming in pots--maybe it is meant to make it easier to remove the steamer basket? But who does that? It's easy enough just to lever up the basket and lift it out. Or for more vegetables, just to dump them out into a strainer. Anyhow, the central prong means that you can't steam anything big and flat (a piece of fish, for example) or anything on a plate. Major design flaw! Eventually, I cut off the prong. Which was hard, since the steamer is STURDY (see above). And it left a hole that corn and peas can fall through. Sistema, you have a great product--correct this design flaw!

Handy

I like the larger size of this microwave steamer, but it means that it takes longer to steam things than my smaller one. To steam broccoli with onion and bell pepper, I need to set it for about 7 minutes on high. That's the only reason I didn't give it a five star. I can do it in 4 on the one I got from WW years ago. But still less trouble than doing it on the stovetop, so i use this a lot!

Difficult to fit lid after use

Cooks the veggies well, but when taking the lid off to check if done, very hard to seal the lid. Even when it has cooled down and been washed, the lid does not clip down properly although it did before I used it.

Sistema Microwave Steamer

Very happy with quality of Sistema products. This steamer is very versatile and can also be used as rice cooker and for meats or fish , without steamer basket. Good depth for larger food items. Good sturdy construction. Also for storage in fridge or freezer. Would definitely recommend this item.

Worth the money

It works very well, and has led to a healthier diet, no more throwing out the healthy stuff with the water. It takes a while to get used too with regard to cooking times, which is oversimplified in the tutorial videos, but that comes with practice. I have knocked off one star because the inner 'tray' that the veg sits in tends to warp slightly when it gets hot and has fallen through to the bottom of the unit once or twice. This isn't a biggie as it's just a case of reseating it and the benefits of using it certainly outweigh this intermittent issue. Careful which size you buy. The one I bought only just fits into my off-the-shelf sized microwave and often gets stuck whilst rotating, but that's no fault of the unit, just a heads-up to measure the inside of your microwave first.
