Fit perfectly

Rekeying info

The lock works well and was easy to install. Rekeying info: This lock cylinder is rekeyable and comes apart just like a deadbolt cylinder. However, the cylinder and pins in it are a slightly different height than regular kwikset cylinder and pins making the kwikset pins a little too tall. If you want to rekey it to match your existing kwikset doors you will need to file down the new pins you insert, just a bit, so that they are flush with the top of the cylinder. It is easy to do with a file for wood or metal and it doesn't take much work to get them down far enough to work in the lock with your existing key. As the cylinder and pins are a different height than standard kwikset, the key bitting depth is different than a kwikset, so if you want to use the new key to rekey all of your doors, you'll have to do the same thing and file down the new kwikset pins that you insert. Also, if this is the route you take, note that the key is a little thicker than a standard kwikset k-1 key so for the key to fit in a standard lock you would need to have a kwikset copy made. I found that our Lowe's chain hardware store had upgraded to an automated cutting machine that wouldn't copy the key so I had to bring it to a smaller hardware store that still did the cutting by hand. The new k-1 kwikset keys work perfectly in the lock.

This product could be so much better.

I feel like this product has hidden costs associated with it and it's sales pitch isn't entirely true. I have 2 sliding glass doors, each on a separate floor. The rest of the house has a kwikset matched system. My goal was to install new locks on the sliding glass doors with a key that matches the rest of the house. The good news is that it's possible to match the whole house with a single key. The bad news is that it's the rest of the house that needs to be rekeyed to match the keys that come with this item(s). Step 1 is to install this lock in the knock out section of the outside handle. Step 2 is to visit the local HW store and copy the key since the provided keys are too thick to fit in a regular kwikset cylinder. Step 3 is to rekey the rest of the house using the new thin keys which work with this item AND your existing kwikset locks. Hopefully you have smartkey capability in your existing locks to make step 3 easy. Otherwise, you will need to take your existing locks to the hardware store to get them manually rekeyed or just replace them with smart key versions at an elevated cost. Edit: I forgot to mention this in the original review but there are 2 issues I faced when putting these cylinders to use. Issue 1 is that the keys provided by prime line are thicker than a regular kwikset key as per the attached picture of both keys next to each other. The thinner key is the original key for my house. Prime line provided key wouldn't even slide through the key hole of my existing kwikset locks. Issue 2 is that the cylinder was sitting too loose in the door handle. I had to wedge some folded paper to keep it from sitting so loose in the handle. I've uploaded a picture of this as well.

Fine lock, smooth operation, bad packaging

Works fine, does the job without issue. Knocking off a star because the packaging was broken and the lock mechanism had come completely apart (as in, tiny springs and tiny half-pins everywhere.) Luckily, I’m mechanically inclined, and know how a lock cylinder goes together, so I was able to reassemble it using needle nose pliers, tweezers, and about 30-40 minutes. If this had come in a blister pack that keeps the lock immobile in the packaging, it wouldn’t have happened.

Decent lock with some drawbacks

Got this to replace a Milgard patio door lock. The installation was easy and quick, but the lock has a couple of drawbacks. Even though it does not feel loose, the cylinder seems to spin a bit under certain conditions which makes it feel less secure. The other issue, and this may be a problem with how the Milgard patio door is designed, is that I cannot lock the patio door from the outside. Turning the key engages the lock, but in order to release the key after locking, I have to turn the cylinder back to the neutral position which in turn unlocks the door. It's not a huge deal for me since I don't usually need to lock this door from the outside, but something to consider if you're looking for that functionality.

Works good install takes effort

Worked good you have to work at the install though. Nit an easy easy install. An ok install with lots of effort. This product works with effort… You can buy this in most Lowe’s stores not all stores carry it.

It works and it CAN be re-keyed.

Despite all the reviews and even the manufacturer’s customer service saying it cannot be re-keyed to match an existing main house key, I went ahead and tried it out with help of a GOOD seasoned locksmith. To make it work: 1. Have it re-keyed by a seasoned locksmith. If your locksmith says it cannot be done, go to another locksmith. 2. Follow regular installation instructions. 3. Somehow a silver/chrome colored key will slide in very tightly. The brass colored key works perfectly. See photo. But I think the “tightness” will go away over time as it is already gliding in easier after a day of use. Solidly built. Would have given it 5 stars except for the mentioned tightness.

Keys are wider than Weiser locks (don’t fit)

Purchased this item as it advertised being a Weiser replacement. My plan was to rekey my Weiser smart-key locks on my house to match this lock - that way my patio door and all other doors would be the same key. Unfortunately the keys for this lock are slightly wider and do not even slide into my existing Weiser locks

Works great for what I needed.

Replaced Schlage keyway in my slider door to match my newer Weiser smart key locks, just had to have the keys that came with the lock recut as the thinner new smart keys are, after reprogramming my Weiser locks with the new slim sliding door key, they work great! The new cylinder was slightly more robust than the stock lock that came with sliding door originally.
