Very inconsistent
We purchased the kit and laid the wire out around about 3/4 of an acre around our house. We used the 16 gauge PetSafe wire instead of the 20 gauge wire that was included, which was much sturdier. Thankfully, we tested the system before burying the wire. I watched countless videos and read the entire manual on how to install and set up the system. In the YardMax mode, the signal was very inconsistent. Sometimes it corrected when crossing the boundary, and in some places it did nothing. In the traditional mode, it didn't give any warning at all. It just started correcting near the boundary wire. To be fair, our neighbors have an in-ground fence that runs off an FM signal that interfered at some parts, but even after moving out fence wire away from theirs, we were still getting inconsistent results. From all my research, the most important aspect of an invisible fence is consistency, and this system is absolutely NOT consistent at all in either setting. If you do buy this system, make sure to test it all around your yard before burying the wire and safe yourself a lot of trouble. Also, I left the same review on the PetSafe website. I received an email that said my review was live, but when I checked their website, it was not on there. They admitted they took down my review because they wanted to “trouble shoot” the issue with me before letting it go live. When someone buys a DIY kit, it should be simple to DIY out of the box without needing to call a company for a basic install. And it’s dishonest to remove negative reviews!

1.5 years and still going.
We ordered the upgraded black wire since the majority of our 3/4 acre yard was done attached to wire fencing. We only buried under gates. Since we have several pastures and 2 driveways that come off of our yard, we just had to trench for 7 gates. The rest of the fencing is zip-tied a few rows up on field fencing so we didn't chance hitting it with the weed eater. Only took our dogs 1 training session to catch on. Our dogs were fence jumpers and could clear 5-foot no-climb fencing from standing. I haven't charged one of their collars in a year because we got it when he was young and he doesn't test it. He waits to be invited through gates. The other will approach the fence and if he doesn't hear a warning beep, he knows he is clear to go visit the neighbors, so we keep his collar charged. We are still on the original batteries. I highly recommend this fence. I do suggest getting the upgraded wire if you are installing above ground.

Good Concept, But Finicky
We got this after two other brands did not work for us. We should have started with PetSafe to begin with because we had friends that use their units with success. They provide more "zap" for that stubborn dog. The nice thing about this is, it has an infinite "zap" zone that goes beyond the wire, so if a dog is willing to put up with a few seconds of "zap" to get out of the fence, this one keeps zapping no matter how far the dog goes. This unit was very effective in keeping our stubborn dog in the yard. We took this camping, which is why we got the portable unit. It worked very well, except read on. The only problem was the unit would sometimes randomly zap our dog. It really got him good a couple times when he was well within the yard. Luckily we were there to take the collar off. That can't happen so we had to return the unit. Too bad because it is really is the best system out there otherwise. Perhaps the non-battery powered unit works better.

Great system-collar needs work
This system works amazing at keeping our 100lb 8 month old mastiff in our yard. He only respects the highest setting. However the cold weather has caused the collar loop that holds the receiver on the collar to snap off. Presage replaced it free of charge but stated they would obit do so once. I have read others have had this same issue.

Superb for our pup
Simple to install, 580’ for me. Took 2 days, 3 sessions (10 min per day) to have our pup fully trained. Did a complete loop, twisted wires for 40’ under deck to insure he doesn’t get hit going in and out of the house. Works PERFECTLY. Called manufacturer before hand, I was told that it wouldn’t work and I HAD to double loop it. Not so. Saved a lot of time, digging, and 1/2 the wire.

DIY is the way to go
I had Invisible Fence previously at a different house. That professionally-installed service may be nice if you are not confident, and the installers are generally could at training the digs to the fence, but none of that is necessary in my experience. It is expensive...this is not. I also like that this system is battery powered. What this allows is an installation without having to put a hole through the side of your house to set up a transformer indoors near an outlet. It also means you can lay it out as a true loop without worrying about a long twisted wire connection from the transformer to your actual loop.

I will update later but so far so good
Install was no fun because the size of my yard but overall instructions provided were understandable. Mostly struggled learning to change the collar not the unit itself. I had my wires reversed but after that glitch is working well.
