shoe not true to size

these run small relative to AE cap toes

These run small! Small relative to ther Allen Edmonds.. In a cap toe, I comfortably wear a 10.5 d. So, I got 10.5 d with this loafer. It's definitely too small. At least half a size.. Don't understand why, but it's true. I haven't returned these for a different size yet, but I'd recommend a half size larger than your ordinary Allen Edmonds cap toe size, but a half size increase may not be enough. I think it will be. Hope this helps.

Good shoe

Great shoes. Color (walnut) does not match what is pictured. Pictured color is much darker than actual shoe.

Difficult to fit

It was too tight on me. I own other shoes that are 10 D that fit perfectly. Another pair of Allen Edmonds at that size fit like a glove. I think that before you purchase you need to know what last was used and then figure what size is good for that last.

excellent style and durability

I used to get Florsheim but their leather has gotten thinner and more easily tears at the heel. These look great and are made with leather thick and durable enough to last many years. I'm going to get several pairs.

Returning shoes

Over the last 40 years I have owned and worn many different Allen Edmonds shoes, either chili or black. Never disappointed. However, I guess there is always a first time. Over the years I have been told “never to assume anything”. This time I assume that the color of the Allen Edmonds Men's Cavanaugh Penny Loafer, even though the advertisement said they were "walnut”, was correct. When the shoes arrived and I opened the box, I was taken a back at the very strange color (very light tan) (see the picture). I would never wear this color with business or casual dress. I am returning the shoes and requesting a refund. In the future I will purchase my shoes in person.

disappointed.

While these shoes look great, they do require breaking in. I believe they heals will wear down quickly and poorly. I'm not impressed with the durability of these shoes. I have loafers that I've paid half of what these costs that perform better. I'll keep them, but am disappointed.

A great comfortable shoe

A great comfortable shoe. I went up a half a size than normal to get the right fit. I suggest you do the same. My one complaint is the color of the shoe is not as rich as it is in the picture. It's much lighter. I don't think I would've purchased this shoe if I knew that. Overall, it's a great quality shoe.

A quality shoe, with a comfortable footbed.

I have been looking to replace a similar pair that are only slightly lower quality, but feel too small when worn in a warmer climate. The colour is pretty good but improves if you carefully polish them with Allen rEdmonds walnut shoe paste; carefully because you can end up with darker swirls or blotches. (You can fix these by relaxing and working the spot with a cloth.) They have slightly stiff soles so should be broken for this, by wearing a few hours at a time. I did not notice any discomfort other than the stiffness. Main thing: they look classy + nice foot bed. Note: I bought my size, exactly, after reading various things and measuring my feet. I do also wax the soles since this helps preserve the look and contributes to durability.

Buy good shoes once, instead of bad shoes three times over

Took a bit to break in, but you can tell instantly that these shoes are quality items. With proper care, I can see these lasting for years to come. EDIT: Almost 2 years later, these shoes are still in great shape. I would caution, however, the sizing - I find these are a tiny bit narrow for my feet, and I ordered an 11 D/M (or a 10.5 E/Wide), which is usually enough. They fit on fine, but this slight tightness in the width makes these less comfortable than they should be (the sole and insole are both very comfy on their own merits).
