Mercer's a standby brand for cooking schools. But this jacket is a miss.

Mercer's a good value brand—knives, etc. But this jacket is not up to standards. The material, although a blend, is really nice. Medium weight. The problem, as other reviewers have said, is the hard plastic used to hold the buttons to the coat. There are shoe lace-sized that seem to have been crimped with some hot crimping tool, creating an irritating hard plastic that bugs you after two minutes and would, no doubt, drive you nuts after a 10-hour shift. I have other chef's coats and none have this issue. But that's not all. The nylon stitching around the collar is, apparently, nylon, as in 8 lb. fishing line. Mildly irritating after two minutes. After a 10 hour shift? I can't imagine. Plus, the cut is blousy and unflattering. If only a Mercer staff member had tried the jacket on for a half an hour before releasing it for sale.

I bought this for our 8 year old grandson for Christmas, size XS. His dad is a chef and he wanted one like his dads. He is a tall, big for his age kid and this fit him like it was made for him. The quality is excellent, very nice, sturdy cotton and beautiful knot buttons on the classic chefs coat. He loves it!! Absolutely perfect. Will be ordering him the black one also. Highly Recommend this product.

good quality, i like the shorter sleeves

looks to be very nice quality, seems kind of long, both the sleeves AND the length. i need to get it tailored or something because it looks like a tent, YES it says it's a men's style but FFS it's a chef jacket, how different can it be?

The best

These are by far the best short sleeve chef jackets made. Very comfortable and it moves well with you. I am a NYC chef and this is by far the best fit for me when I am on the move doing a culinary event or when I have to jump on the line to help. It's well made beyond what you can imagine

My new favorite chef coat

My new favorite chef coat!! Beautifully made and stands up well to lots of laundering, I wash in cold water and hang jacket to dry. As for how it looks, I'm a 5'7" gal and I bought the small, I love the longer length and slight taper, very flattering. Comfy to wear even over a hot grill I feel like my skin is still breathing. Highly recommend!!

Ordered a large, because that's what he typically wears. But, when we got it, it was super big and long in the length. The quality is great and still love the jacket. Just returned it for a medium.

Basic Jacket, looks "cheap"

This was a gift. I got the size right, but the jacket is pretty basic and far too short, since the chef is tall. I doubt whether it will get used and I was disappointed in the "cheap" appearance of the jacket and the material used. So I would not buy it again.

looks sharp

Its a very sharp looking top. Fits perfectly. Has plenty of pocket space on the left sleeve to fit a handful of pens and thermometers. I bought this at a discounted price through amazon, so that was a bonus! The only downside, a minor one, but annoying, is that the knot-buttons are stitched through a hole in the breast. The other end of the button is melted plastic (plastic, due to the material ((kinda like scorching the ends of your shoelaces to stop them from fraying))) Which rubs against skin, if you dont wear a t-shirt or something underneath this can be quite irritable. So... They are not CLOTH BUTTONS like the product description explains.. Nonetheless, a very nice top.

Styling

Love the coat. I’m a chef bye trade and I use this for home cooking etc. Fits great and I will save ruining a few shirts this summer. Thanks
