The train set was much appreciated! It was a successful install on a ceiling height track in my grandson’s room. His dad built the track around the entire room and his mom painted the room to compliment the design. It looks fabulous and works great!

Great gift for train lovers.

Got this gift for one of my kids that is obsessed with trains. Really wanted the Hogwarts one but for some reason kept saying it wouldn't ship to my area (inside the US, which was weird). Ended up going with this and they have gotten hours and hours of enjoyment out of it. The batteries last a surprising amount of time also, which was a concern I'd be burning through batteries. It's been since December and has been ran pretty much every other day for hours at a time the past couple months and still no need for new batteries. My only real complaint is the tracks are a bit hard for him to get the train rested on, and admittedly a bit frustrating for me to get on also. Also wish there was a way to turn off the sounds. I love seeing him play with the train but he's an early riser and I'm a night owl, and hearing that horn sounding 592 times at 5 am isn't my favorite feature.

Great toy. Three problems.

Great toy for under the tree. I had three problems with it, though. First, I received the box with impact damage at one corner. The damage was only to the manufacturer’s packaging and not to the shipping box. I inspected the contents and found the plastic packing tray lid broken into several pieces at that corner. Luckily, the toy was not damaged. Without having a full top packing cover, I am a little worried about long term storage between Christmases. Second, the toy did not arrive with any instructions. After trying to get the battery tray out of the locomotive for several minutes and being afraid I would damage the toy, I found the unlocking tabs for the battery tray. I have since found the manual online and will be printing it shortly. Thirdly, the center detent on the remote forward/reverse throttle tends to wander. When setting the rheostat to the stop position, occasionally the train will actually be in the slowest forward or reverse speed. It can be a bit disconcerting.

Better Than Other Train Sets I Purchased, Still Like Others Has Minor Flaws…

This was and is the best of three different train sets I bought, especially since the bundle gave extra tracks and not just a circle. At the time of purchase it was a great value for the money, can’t say that the price will always be that way though. The only thing now is I want to expand in this train set for the child I got it for, finding the tracks is the easy part, the problem is finding the right additional train cars to go with it. I’ve checked the Lionel website but I don’t know what additional train cars will fit this train. They don’t say. All in all, this train set is a good beginning train set. Would be better if it wasn’t battery operated though and like the other sets I got for this child and his cousin are all with an internal USB Charged battery in the coal car. Here the Engine has C Batteries.

This is a great train with little ones around.

I have actually bought two of these. The Polar Express for my own enjoyment around the Christmas Tree every year and this one, the Pennsylvania Flyer for my grandson. Obviously they are not the trains in 0 or 0-27 for model railroad hobbyists. But they look good, the battery operated locomotive becomes heavy with the batteries and pulls really well. They stay on the track and little ones can operate them. The sounds from the engine and control are well received by children. I have had my Polar Express for many years and have found it to be durable and reliable. Extra track and switches are available and these trains are worthy of them. It's fun to have them go around the Christmas Tree, under the couch and coffee table, and to take a side excursion with the switches. Yes I have bought quite a bit of extra track. I would ask Lionel to make additional cars available as the locomotives are more than capable of pulling them. If you keep your expectations in line with the purpose of these sets, you will be very happy with them. It's a simple train, from an actual model train company, that performs quite well. Hard to beat.

Great Set

Very happy with this Christmas gift for my 4 year old. Even my baby got a little rough with it and it was fine. The manufacturer sent 2 of the wrong track pieces so I was unable to complete the circle of the track, but after the holidays when I called Lionel directly, immediately they shipped the missing parts, no questions. En lo general me gustó mucho el tren y llego en buen estado, lo que quizás me hubiera gustado es que pudiera ser conectado al toma-corriente ya que se necesitan muchas baterías para su funcionamiento, en mi caso yo cuento con bastantes baterías recargables AA y AAA, solo tuve que comprar los 6 adaptadores a baterías tipo C para usar las baterías AA en el tren, sé que se van a descargar más rápido pero ya me ahorre el gastar en baterías tipo C con su respectivo cargador en caso que las buscara recargables. De momento he podido utilizar el tren a la perfección con los adaptadores de baterías. No califico el producto con las 5 estrellas porque no se puede ajustar el volumen del tren o silenciarlo totalmente, OJO el tren siempre que este encendido y aunque se encuentre detenido no va a dejar de hacer ruido por la bocina que tiene y para mi ver creo que el volumen que viene de fabrica es alto y resulta algo molesto después de un rato de estar jugando con el tren.
