Not winter-ready by itself
Love the style of this jacket and the black cherry color. Collar is high when fully zipped, but eliminates the need for a scarf. If you unzip the collar, it can be folded down. But this jacket can't handle Midwest winters by itself. The Omniheat makes it warmer than you'd expect for such a light jacket, but it's not entirely wind-proof. I wouldn't use it in temperatures below freezing or in a high wind. So, I look at it as a fall or spring jacket. The jacket appears to be compatible with Columbia's interchange system -- in theory, it could be covered with a Columbia shell to make it windproof and even warmer. But even at Columbia's online store, they mostly sell complete interchange sets (inner jacket and shell together). Only ONE shell was available as a stand-alone item, no liner. I returned this jacket because I couldn't find a new or used shell that was both compatible and cheap. I got it here at Amazon for only $50, but the addition of a shell makes the total cost too high. P.S. I finally found a great winter coat at an even better price! The ZeroXposur Women's Shimmer Hooded Heavyweight Jacket (https://www.amazon.com/ZeroXposur-Womens-Shimmer-Hooded-Heavyweight) was on clearance at Kohl's for even less than I originally paid for the Kaleidoslope!

Lightweight but very warm
I bought this coat in anticipation of a cold winter away in Calgary. When I opened the package, I was worried because it is so thin and lightweight. It's definitely enough for an ordinary winter at home in Connecticut, but I wasn't sure about really serious cold weather in Canada. But today I wore it out walking in -20F windchill, with a thin cashmere sweater underneath, and it was warm enough and kept the wind out. For dog-walking at 20 or 30 degrees, I wear it with just a flannel shirt or long-sleeve t-shirt, otherwise it is too hot. At 40 or 50 degrees it is really too warm. It definitely is warmer when you ware moving than just standing still-- the lining just keeps in your body heat. So it may be better for walking than for standing at a bus stop. I normally wear medium and upsized to a large so that I could wear thick sweaters under it. It's a little baggy, and I think medium probably would have worked fine too, but I'm happy with the roomier fit. It does cover my butt too. I love the furry collar, the deep and warm pockets, and the little pocket for your phone. I agree with others who say the thumb loops are a little short, but that doesn't bother me. The sleeves work fine and keep out drafts with both thin gloves and my big ski mittens. The chevron design is nice and the cut is stylish and flattering. I feel good both out hiking in the country and shopping in the big city, and I think it would work for skiing too. Very glad I got this nice thin coat instead of a big ugly puffer!

My favorite Jacket EVER!!
My favorite go to jacket for colder weather. For me, it was 100% worth the money because I didn’t have a nice winter jacket. My mom and her friend had this exact jacket and I knew I had to have one too. I normally wear an extra large but this jacket is considered more form fitting so I went up a size because I knew the fit of their jackets. When I went searching for a 2x, Amazon was one of the only places that had that size available. I would definitely go up a size if you don’t have a smaller waist and shoulders or if you just like your stuff a little bigger like I do. There is no stretch either so keep that in mind when choosing a size. The material inside makes this a great thin “puffer” jacket look without being overly hot. I wore it almost every day this winter and it was perfect. I’m very pleased with my purchase!

Omni Heat is great!
I tried to get this jacket directly from Columbia, but my size was sold out. I wrote them and they suggested checking Amazon and I am glad I did! I live in the Western provinces and I've been wearing this jacket in -15C to -20C with no issues. A light turtleneck under it is fine if you are moving about, if not a sweater fits nicely under it and will keep you quite warm with the omni heat liner. The thumb cut out in the arm is genius; no air gets up there whatsoever! I ordered the jacket according to the measurements and find it a bit big in the lower half. Fits a larger chest perfectly though, and I did use the chest measurement because that's what I was concerned about. It is very light and great for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. I wish there was a drawstring in the bottom or some kind of cinching mechanism; cold air did get up into the jacket from the waistline (but once again, it doesn't fit me the best there). I do highly suggest this if you are looking for a jacket that will act as a lighter alternative to a winter parka. Use the measurement you are most concerned about as your guide if you really want to be able to layer. Note that the cut flairs out at the waist so I wouldn't be too concerned about the hip measurement. It is a really flattering cut and doesn't look bulky like other ski jackets. There is no hood of course but the neckline is lined and when you zip it right up it covers up to your chin quite nicely. Great buy (and a better price than the Canadian Columbia website!)

Very impressed!! So happy!!
I am from the Houston area and we were planning on taking a trip to Oklahoma for Christmas. There was an ice storm expected and I really needed a good jacket. After reading countless reviews, that's really the reason I bought this jacket. I have an 8 month old and I am "post baby body fluffy" still....so the idea of a "puffy coat" sounded awful!! I am a size 12 and 5'7" so I have a hard time finding coats with long sleeves, this one was perfect!! When I got it I was soooooooo impressed with how thin it was. And as some reviews will tell you, anyone with hips and a booty will have a tighter fit towards the bottom. But it fits very nicely around the rest of my body and hugs curves well. It is VERY WELL INSULATED! Anytime I wear it in icy wind, I don't feel a thing. It also has these slots for you thumbs....I love that!! This is the first time I have purchased a jacket online and even though I was skeptical about spending almost $100 it was a steal compared to the $140 it will cost you elsewhere!! If you want a good looking jacket that fits like a glove, please purchase this item, you will not be disappointed!!

Love the color, however, I went by measurements and it’s too big in the body and a little tight across the shoulders

Beautiful warm jacket suitable for town and country
I know what this looks, lovely and warm and light ,I wanted to buy it in the past here in Israel where I live but they only had large sizes.I It is sporty but a little classic too so can go walking the dog orto town with it . It is waiting for me at my sisters in the UK and she said it could have done with being a bit smaller ( i am a size 8 and took small ) . I didn't change it as xs wasn't in the sale and was double the price !

Not warm and made way too small
This jacket is made VERY small and it's not warm at all. I could feel the cold penetrate instantly when I wore it outside.

Don't Sweat It, Just Get It
I've been using this jacket for a couple of months now, and it's currently my daily-use jacket. The color is as pictured and it is light-weight but keeps one warm. I like the angled zip up pockets and the flattering design and fit of the jacket. The one thing I would point out though, is that this jacket does not have a hood. So, for those who don't like carrying umbrellas or wearing hats, this may not be the jacket for you. This is a perfect autumn jacket, or, if you have dry, milder winters, this is a good jacket to have. It is breathable and keeps you warm. I usually run warm and would sweat in a thermal/fleece-lined jacket, but this jacket keeps me at a comfortable temperature without sweating. I would definitely reccomend as a stylish, utility jacket for running errands.
