Was not what was stated

Did not receive what was ordered, I ordered a level 3 ankle braces, two of them, each of my ankles are bad. I did receive the brand name that I ordered, and the color was correct. However, I was sent level 2 braces. I was not going to send them back over this. I am hoping that they will offer enough support to help my ankles heal. Bad ligament, and tendon damage to the left ankle, not so bad on the right ankle. That's my only complaint, a level 2 brace instead of the level 3 that I had ordered. The delivery was fast, and delivered on time, so, I am happy with that. So far, the braces are helping my right ankle a lot, as for the more severe damaged left ankle not much, a little bit of relief, could be better perhaps if it were a level 3, like it was supposed to be.

If you have injured your ankle and need a brace to protect and support it, this is it!

I injured my ankle very badly in an automobile accident. The ER we went to wasn't very concerned at all, so I thought I must be OK even tho I could not stand to bear any weight on that foot. Finally I went to see my Primary Care Doc. He ordered new xrays and saw that I had really torn up the main controller of the ankle/foot that goes right down the top front of the leg. He sent me right then to purchase a McDavid Brace at the local Sports store. It helped quite a bit. I even wore it to bed for about a week and finally got to sleep through the night! Since then I have purchased 3 more McDavids, plus one other one that kind of looked like a McDavid, but it was not. The McDavid fits more snugly and has enough shoe laces that it is very easy to lace it up fully and tie a nice big knot. The other brand's shoe laces need to be much longer, and after wearing the other brand for several hours my foot feels like it has gone to sleep. This doesn't happen with the McDavid which I wear all day long! My ankle is slowly getting stronger, but I realize that this injury will probably never be fully well, and will be likely to reinjure. This is why I went ahead and bought more McDavids. I can wash one pair out and wear another, and if one breaks eventually I will have spares. I am very thankful that my doctor was aware of this brand and sent me to get the first one. It has made a big difference in my mobility!

Could use a little more stretch

Looks like a nice product but not enough stretch for us to get it on. Also wanted more stability - perhaps stays. Would probably be great for someone who needs less support.

Excellent support!

Purchased a second Shock Doctor 849 ankle brace. I have ankle damage as the result of an auto accident (in 1973) and have recently seen a steady decrease in stability along with increasing pain. These braces, although not a cure, will allow me to deal with the damage in my own time frame. They provide good lateral support and keep my ankle relatively stationary when I walk (between 4 and 6 miles per day at work). Recommended to wear in a shoe, it has a minimal amount of bulk for the support provided. Very comfortable without shoes, but I'm sure the neoprene(?) strap on the bottom will wear out quickly without shoes. Disclaimer - mid through late week I wear an ankle high compression sleeve for extra support, but am probably dealing with more damage than these are recommended for.

Good Support sub-par material

These provide pretty good support for a pretty decent ankle sprain and not to mention good tension strength for an ankle above a flat foot so walking with them is pretty alright. THe material is completely fabric and mostly nylon, this product will not hold up in the long run, and the entire bottom is weird plastic gell stuff that doesn't make any sense as to why it's there, but it's not a very stron fabric across the bottom. For the price of these I would expect the material to be up to par for long term use, $20 a piece is quite expensive. The ayelets for the laces should be metal not this fabric. Too many corners were cut for this product and in the short term it will work. BUt long term it wouldn't last for an athlete, but for everyday wear, these are perfect.

A glorified support sock that won't fit in your shoe

I have a bad ankle and I've tried several of these products. This is one of the less effective ones, especially considering the price range and the specified use which is medium/high intensity. First off, this is wildly ineffective, and potentially problematic, for lifting. Second, for low intensity athletics or walking, it's still a poor choice, because it may not fit in your sneakers. The item has an ineffective support, similar to a support sock - it's a piece of stretchy fabric at the bottom. The sides are filled with a gel of some kind (though it feels more like sand to be honest) This "gel" allows too much give in the support and makes it difficult to lace up sufficiently tightly. If this was labelled as a "leisure walking" support, that wouldn't be that big of a deal. It's not, this is alleged to be an athletic ankle supporter. As such, it fails. The level of support this provides is probably around the same to maybe slightly better than an athletic support sock. Despite being laced in, it still allows far too much shifting of the ankle and while fine for casual use, would probably lead to the ankle getting rolled again if you lifted with it. I have no desire to test that hypothesis though. The other problem is that it also won't fit in several of my sneakers. The device is fairly large and cumbersome. Considering there are better devices that will fit in your sneakers such as support socks and better braces, this is a minus. Not recommended. If you're just walking around and need a little support, get a support sock likeACE Knitted Ankle Support, Medium (Pack of 2) . It'll actually fit in your sneakers. If you need athletic ankle support (like what I eventually used for lifting) getAnkle Brace Mcdavid #195 Lacing Ankle W/strap Large . Or tape the ankle.

Great support

This support has been very helpful for me. I sprained my ankle a few months back and I have resumed walking and hiking because of this support. My ankle feels very stable in it when I walk across uneven ground. It is a bit of work to lace up ( kind of like hockey skates) but there is also a benefit that you can adjust tightness and play with comfort versus support. It fits in all my shoes but I do have wide feet and shoes so that my he a helping factor. XL size fit me well and I have 11 shoe size.

Gute Stütze

Das Produkt kam sehr schnell geliefert, wie immer. Ich habe XL bestellt, nach groben Überschlagen des Knöchelumfangs. Auf der Produktverpackung steht auch, wie das zu messen sei (Über dem Knöchelknochen).. Die Verpackung ist komplett auf Englisch, eine kleine Beschreibung ist vielsprachig (auch Deutsch), das Produkt ist in China produziert, macht aber einen guten, qualitativ hochwertigen Eindruck. Bei meiner Schuhgröße 43 passt der Knöchelschützer super. Er sitzt angenehm stramm am Fuß und macht einen sicheren Eindruck. Es ist komplett flexibel, also es ist kein festes Element verbaut. Die Stütze passt super in meinen Sportschuh mit rein, auch auf beiden Füßen, mit einem Socken drunter ist das auch sehr angenehm. Beim Sport selber (Handball) kann ich mich damit viel sicherer Bewegen.
