(2) Like all push-pull zoomies
The Jonard Industries FL-2000 is a clone of the classic Sipik 58 LED flashlight. It's powered by a single AA or 14500 cell, and has similar output to the Sipik 58. Features at a glance: (1) This is a push-pull zoomie. Slide the bezel back and forth to go from a diffuse even circle of light to a spot projection of the surface of the LED. (2) Like all push-pull zoomies, this one is intentionally not waterproof. An opening is needed so air pressure can equalize when the zoom is cycled. Without such an opening piston action would cause the bezel to return to whatever position it was in when the battery compartment was sealed. (3) Single mode reverse clicky switch. Looks like a fairly standard Omten switch (or clone of one). (4) Output is relatively dim. This light appears not to have a CREE emitter in it. I estimate probably 50-100 lumens (flood mode), and half that in spot mode. (5) 18mm Optical acrylic aspheric lens. NOTE ON OUTPUT: Many flashlight ads on Ebay and probably Amazon advertise ridiculous lumen claims. Claims of "3500 lumens", "8000 lumens", and even "20000 lumens" are common. These claims are almost always false. Actual output may be 20x lower than the advertised output. To get a rough idea of output identify the LED emitter (or similar emitters), and probable drive current then check the manufacturer specs for the LED. To get a precise measure of lumens requires testing the light in an integrating sphere. I purchased the FL-2000 knowing exactly what I was getting. I am a flashlight enthusiast with extensive experience modifying flashlights. The Sipik 58 has a very appealing shape for an EDC pocket light: It is nearly fully knurled and unlike the much more common Sipik 68, the 58 has a smooth cylindrical body much better for pocket carry. Why the Jonard FL-2000? The Sipik 58 may be a classic, but it is also old. So old that nobody seems to carry them anymore. The Jonard FL-2000 was the only Sipik 58 clone I could find. When purchased to use in its unmodified form however, the FL-2000 has some significant minuses: (1) -1 star for Age - this is a clone of a light that's over 5 years old and does not appear to have received any electronics updates. Output is quite low by today's standards. (2) -1 star for Price - the original Sipik 58 was a cheap budget light that sold for considerably less than the price of the FL-2000. The extra cost doesn't really buy a better light than you can get for $10 or less. Build quality and features place this light squarely within the realm of $5-10 lights. That said, as long as you know what to expect, the FL-2000 is quite a nice light and makes for an excellent flashlight mod host.
