Long, sharp, and cuts through a stud like butter.....with a good, corded drill only.
Its really good, but HOLY CRAP its tough to use. My 20V Li-Ion Ridgid drill can't turn it, because it doesn't have enough torque. The "screw thread" on the head digs in so hard, the bite of the bit is too much for my drill. It does work with a corded drill, where you have a lot more torque, so its definitely for a more commercial use. given enough power, it goes right through a stud like butter, in a split second.

It is what it is, a drill bit that works
Its a drill bit that does what it says. We built our own home and I used this bit for all of the wiring, worked great. I ecspecially love the coarse screw point, the bit did not run it just started drilling where I put it. I only used it on 2x4 but seems to be as sharp as the day I purchased it. Would definetely buy again but I might purchase in a bit shorter length. Once it was attached to the drill it was a bit long and hard to get in between the 16" stud spacing.

Beware of Dimensions
I'm using this auger bit in an unconventional manner and thus have nothing to say regarding how well it performs when used as intended. I merely wanted to inform potential buyers that the dimensions listed on the product description for the product I received were incorrect. The shank is not 5/16" and thus I must now drill out my shaft coupler to accommodate a larger shank.

Bought 2, broke 2 before they were even close to being used up
These bits are okay, but I have broken two where the shaft meets the bit. This has never happened to me before, and having two bits in a row fail has caused me to avoid the Irwin brand for a while. I have always considered commodity drill bits pretty much the same. Yes there are high end bits that are great, but they are for woodworking and other precision endeavors...not running romex or drilling through dimensional lumber.

Switched to an old Craftsman spade bit and it went through like butter.
Drilling four 4-6 inch holes into the end of pressure treated 4x4s. The drill bit had an extremely hard time. Switched to an old Craftsman spade bit and it went through like butter.

2 of 2 Bits Extremely Dull
I purchased two of these drill bits for use with my Hole Hawg while wiring my new house. I've used Irwin bits in the past with good results, and these seemed like a good deal. My old brand M bit lasted about half-way into the project (about 250 holes through studs/joists), when it started getting dull, so I switched over to one of the new Irwin bits. It was so dull out of the package that it would barely drill a hole, with considerably more effort than my old, worn bit. I then tried the other new Irwin bit, and it started ok, but after 5 holes it wouldn't drill, either. It's almost like Irwin missed heat treating the bits. At that point, I went to my local Home center and purchased a new brand M bit which I used for wiring the remainder of my house without any issues. Unfortunately, enough time had lapsed between when I bought these bits and when I tried using them, that I was outside the Amazon return period, so I'm stuck eating the cost.

Great as a paper weight
Becomes dull after the first or second hole. I needed to drill 6 holes; barely moves into the wood after becoming extremely dull. Waste of money
