Good Quality Hinge

Seems to be a well made, heavy duty, quality hinge. The tension on the springs automatically close the door fully into the door jamb opening. I guess I'm going to buy another hinge set of 2 because I would like one more hinge on the door just for aesthetics.

Much better than similar stamped, galvanized flat hinges

I used these to replace cheap, galvanized flat springs on a porch door. They are much sturdier, look nicer, and can be adjusted. The springs are shipped with a rod that is used to wind or unwind the spring in the hinge barrel- the tension is set with a stop pin that is located in a series of recesses (the same ones into which the rod fits). Installation will be as easy or difficult as the application and user's experience permit!

Not really adjustable

These seem very heavy duty and get the job done. However, there’s really only one tension that is usable. Anything more tense, and you can’t open the door all the way. Anything less tense, and you could go make a sandwich before the door actually closes (and never actually fully closes flat on the lesser-than-default setting). Have to live with the default tension setting

Great hinges, but FULL SURFACE MOUNT ONLY, no other option

Was so excited to find these to replace hinges from 1964 wooden screen doors spanish villa in Tucson BUT did not realize these are surface mounted only. My existing are half surface ( on door surface) but hidden hinge, for inside frame for other half of hinge. Did not want to change the existing frame mounting so trying to make do with older hinges which have some squeaking and not all working. Sadly returning, Hillman customer service was great on the phone. I do think description should be updated to say 'full surface mount Only".

You've been warned

This is adjustable for tension only after a 3-handed kabuki dance which is part of the discovery process necessitated by the useless instructions. The online Amazon customer assistance rep was also understandably confused by the Rorschach Test supplied by the manufacturer. Only pictographs, the 4-panel tutorial devotes 3 of them to "how to install screws". This is as insightful as the pre-boarding safety instructions given by flight attendants who tell you how a seat belt works. The other diagram was donated by someone who clearly has never seen or used this thing. This hinge must be installed in the open position. Folding it flat requires partial disassembly of the mechanism because it doesn't have a hex bolt in the cylinder like 99% of spring hinges do. It isn't any less expensive than its competitors. Its only real use is smoothing out freshly poured cement. Otherwise, treat this like Medusa. Don't even look at it.

Easy to install hinge and is tension adjustable

The media could not be loaded. Pretty easy to install on a garden gate, I used this in addition to another hinge since I had a heavy garden door about (20 lbs) to keep the dogs from wandering. You can adjust the tensions but you will need an additional plier or small round tool to rotate hinge enough to be able to increase the tension. Works well on a heavy door and is much cheaper than the stuff at home Depot which is $40 bucks +.

Cannot open past 90 deg.

The hinges worked great for two or three small openings of the gate. I was so happy! Then I opened the gate to 90 deg, and it never closed. The hing was deformed. Did not even last a half hour. I only used these hinges for their ability to self close. There were 3 other hinges that were actually taking on the weight of the wood gate. Frustrating.

Not for a typical house door

It’s a quality hing, but not designed for typical door formats. The entire hinge needs to be exposed and does not fold into itself as with a normal interior or exterior door. I assume this is more for a garden gate application. The instructions on adjusting the tension are abysmal.
