What was I waiting for??

I have struggled with hoses for too many years. Hooks on walls that break out. Expanding hoses that spring leaks. Manual cranks that are heavy and throw your back out. Finally, I sprung for the fancy wall mounted European built retractable hose system. I’m so glad I did. It’s more than I expected. Absolutely brilliant product. Definitely worth the price. If you are on the fence, just get this. It’s everything you hope it is.

Fantastic, but not perfect

First, to address the reviews of the nozzle popping off or blowing off or leaking.. or even the hose that connects to the wall… its no big deal. Its just a compression fitting. It screws on. So you’re probably going to need to snug it up anyway. As the hose has probably compressed after it was manufactured & gets loose. Initially, I thought the biggest complaint I had was that the volume & pressure from this smaller diameter hose really noticeably less than the standard 3/4” garden hose. But! Turns out its the nozzle. The nozzle has a nice spray to it but it’s annoying. Its not a consistent pattern from off to on & back off. Its like there is a restricter in it, so volume is reduced, & you have to close it & re-open it to get the pattern back to where it was to begin with. The most annoying thing is, the adapter provided does no good to adapt to your current nozzles. So I bought a male/male to adapt theirs to my quick couple. It needed to be double gasket/oring, and teflon, to seal, but works. Its just big! (See photos) this fixed the flow/pressure issue however. Plenty of both with a proper sized nozzle. So it’s not a notable loss with the smaller hose. The reel system is brilliant. Zero issues so far. Hose Kinks easily, but un-kinks easily as well. Mounted to my stucco wall & feels solid! I did hit a stud with one or 2 lags. Love the swivel. I ceramic coated the whole thing, in an attempt to protect it on my west facing wall.

Beware of performance

We have mixed feelings on the Gardena 115 foot reel. Well made product. Retracting mechanism worked well and is very precise. Easy to mount. With all these positive features we were very disappointed in the performance. The hose size for the 115 foot version is small, probably 10 or 11 mm. The manufacturer does not tell you the hose size in the description. This small size severely restricts the flow. When we connected it to a 40 psi hydrant that produced 20 gals/min, the Gardena hose reel would only deliver 3 gal/min. This was not useful for our application so we returned the unit. If you do not need a lot of flow this unit will probably work for you and the long reach is a real plus.

Don’t wait, buy this one !

We had always hesitated to buy this because it’s so pricey but after the frustration of working manually with water hose for a few seasons I decided to splurge on this despite my spouse disagreement to spend this kind of money.. but oh boy this self recoiling garden hose has changed my gardening mood and it’s such a joy every time the hose recoil back to the box with so much ease. I hope this top quality product will last a life time ! Why didn’t I buy this earlier ?!

Good, but has some major issues that could cause a flood

We have several of these models and one is mounted in a garage. The unit is fully assembled right out of the box, which is a plus. FLAW: The mechanism has been good on our older ones (1 yr), but we have had 2 instances where the hose pops falls out of its connector. The connectors are still attached, but the hole literally slides out of it. This has now happened on 2 units. The problem is, if you are not home when this happens, get ready for a flood in your garage, or a huge puddle on your lawn. I went back to all 3 and refit the hose to its connector and so far, so good. But this should not be happening.

Impressive

I was skeptical - it is a lot of money for a hose reel. But after using it all summer I am impressed. My kids and wife all use it and have no problem. The length is plenty to get mostly around our home. I have switched most of my garden items over to Gardena and all the products have outperformed everything else I have owned. I was always skeptical of the Gardena products because they are plastic. I always tended toward metal and brass but the Gardena just lasts longer and performs better.

Bought it used

I bought it from amazon as used in great condition. It was fine but was missing some parts that I had to come up with, so amazon gave me more discount. The product itself is awesome so far. It retracts really good and havent had much of an issue. Im aways happier with gardena quality overall. They’re definitely in the pricier side but I think their quality matches. The set up was easy since I had a power drill. The directions were simple. PS: I had to buy a separate wand/spray to connect to it- overall happy.

Had to buy a connector for normal garden hose nozzle

First retractable garden hose. So far exactly what I imagined. Easy to use. Had to buy an extra connector for normal garden hose noodle. Hope it last long.
