Left a Little Residue

We'd started to detect an odor from inside of our Frigidaire dishwasher. I thought using these tablets might help. After I'd had run the dishwashing cycle on the first use of the cleaner, there was a clump of residue on the bottom of the dishwasher. I had to manually scrape that out because it wouldn't completely dissolve. The tablet did seem to help somewhat with the bad odor, though. I was expecting that the cleaning tablets leave a fresh, citrusy scent in the machine after the cleaning. I can't it left much of a fragrance at all, though. Eventually, we replaced the old Frigidaire dishwasher with a new one. And we discovered that the smell was mostly coming from residue inside the drain hoses from the dishwasher, not from the dishwasher its. So, I don't know how much good cleaning the inside of the dishwasher improved the odor if the hoses were full of smelly scum. For those of you keeping score, here's the breakdown: Scent- C Effectiveness- B Value- B Overall Grade: B-

works well with monthly use to keep odor away

i use these in my dishwasher monthly to keep from getting lime and mineral buildup. they work as well as the cleaning only tabs with the added bonus of a fresh scent. i run it on a quick wash cycle and it dissolves completely and lasts the whole month.

What if you don’t have a “rinse only” cycle?

My old Whirlpool dishwasher from 2005 did have a “rinse and hold” cycle, but my new, super efficient dishwasher doesn’t have any sort of “rinse only” cycle. But one thing my new dishwasher does do is become stinky between uses. And this problem drives me crazy. I used to be able to run my old Whirlpool once a week and fill it up with dirty, un-rinsed dishes every day and somehow it never became stinky. And by that I mean the gross sewer water odor that can happen with the water that sits at the bottom of all dishwashers that are properly installed. That water is there as a primer for the pump the next time you run it. Something about Whirlpool’s design prevented that small puddle of water (usually hidden by the strainer at the base of the dishwasher) from becoming gross and smelly. AND that Whirlpool didn’t even have a strainer/filter that I had to clean. Anyway, I decided that this product might help me with the smelly between-wash problem. Well, to be honest, I can’t really tell if it’s doing anything. Since I don’t have a “rinse only” cycle like the instructions require, I just use this pod on the shortest one hour quick wash cycle I have. But even that one hour cycle is a full wash and drain cycle so this pod has completely disappeared at the end. So I don’t know if it’s had “time to do it’s job”. A rinse only cycle would probably leave a portion or remnants thereof of the pod to slowly do its magic over time. I’m going to keep testing these pods between my dishwasher’s regular normal 3 hour cycles and see if I can notice reduced odors, but so far, it’s hard to tell.
