Does exactly what's claimed on the tin!

I purchased this drill bit to drill 8 holes in 1/2' mild steel using a Wen drill press, and it did not disappoint. I especially like how it is designed to first drill the small pilot hole and then the larger section of the bit bites in. It churned out large spirals of steel each time I aggressively pressed on the drill. Just be sure to use TapMagic to keep the bit cool and it will work wonders.

Amazing drill bit

I have used this DeWalt DW1392 1/2 inch bit to drill holes through mild steel plate (3/16 to 1/4 inch thick) on my tractor’s loader bucket and ballast box. I am amazed at how well it works! I use a punch to give the drill’s pilot tip a little bit of grip to start the hole. The pilot tip works well and I have found it isn’t necessary to use a smaller bit first, and then the 1/2 inch DW bit. Just chuck the DW1932 and start drilling holes.

QUALITY from DEWALT

Very high quality and does an excellent job when new. I dropped one star only because it seemed to get dull rather quickly. I drilled about ten holes in plate steel and cast iron using cutting oil and the last two were definitely a struggle. I have a drill doctor but am not sure I can sharpen this one back to original specs. Still - I would buy again.

Excelent quality only 15.5 cm short not 19.8cm!

I bought 3 drilling bits for my deck project: an 18" ship auger, a 13" fast drill and this bit by Dewalt. FINALLY, I was able to drill through 2 x of the beams. My 2 beams sit on a notched 6x6. Although the description of Dewalt 1/2-inch Pilot Point Twist Drill Bit states to be 20 cm long, which would have helped to have a few centimeters longer to go through the 3 deck lumbers, unfortunately it felt short. So 2x of the wood is 3" + the notch of 1.5" = 4.5" = 11.5 cm. The rest of the bit is the insertion part. Where is the rest of the 5cm? I guess they stated the packaging height? I absolutely like the quality of this bit. It opened up a clean hole, much better than the ship auger and the other stuff the fast drill was totally useless. I wish I could have found an in-between size of this 15cm vs. the much longer versions. I don't understand why a middle length size does not exist when there are so many applications.
