Breathable Omni-shade Fabric for Hot weather

Columbia Women’s Standard Silver Ridge Lite Long Sleeve Shirt, Light Lichen, X-Large. First look for the words Omni-shade on the upper left sleeve. If it doesn't say that, you do not have the right fabric. The Fabric is super light-weight and the weave looks like a tiny checkered pattern. It actually reflects heat off. I wanted this shirt for hot sun and light mosquitos. Ordered XL after checking size chart, knowing sleeves would be a bit long but the bust would fit 41C and broad shoulders. Size is perfect. No pulling at the buttons across breast. Next most important is armpit room for holding arms up with camera and binoculars. There is plenty of room in this area so no pinching or binding. Even though it is XL it still has a bit of form fitted look so it is more flattering than a man's cut shirt. Slightly shorter in front and longer in back so it looks better untucked too. Simple chest pockets with over-flap and Velcro closure. No extras like eyeglass holder, no pen holder or any smaller extra pocket options for fishing. Just 2 front smooth pockets. No eyeglass cleaner corner at the bottom of shirt either. The sleeves reach to my knuckles offering more protection from mosquitos, or I can adjust the buttons at the wrist to hold the sleeve at wrist in place if I don't want it hanging down on hands, and an extra button above wrist to close the gap. The fabric is smooth and thin so rolled cuffs do not stay by themselves. The sleeve has to be rolled all the way above elbow for the inside tab length to button in place. Happily the thin fabric does bunch up or pinch in the elbow crease as heavier fabric does. I just wish the tab had more options for adjusting the length of where the rolled cuff can sit. The back is only vented on the sides, it is NOT vented across the whole upper back like the PFG Bahama. The fabric stretches so it doesn’t limit range of motion or pullup when arms are extended. The fabric is only somewhat wrinkle resistant. After washing it needs smoothed flat and then hanged dry. Slightly rumpled is fine for outdoor gear. Not too wrinkled pulling it out of my pack. No pulling across my back when touching arms fully extended out front. I did a 6 mile hike in 90F sun with this fully buttoned up shirt as my sunblock layer over a tank top. At rest intervals I would open the buttons of this outer layer and face the breeze and the fabric would cool me and dry instantly. With other shirts I bought for hot weather, I would feel confined, over-heated, soggy and feel the need to take it off because it does not let my skin breathe. With this Silver Ridge, even though I was sweating profusely on this hike from exertion, the Omni-shade fabric never felt like I was wearing soggy material at any time. Never felt like needing to remove this shirt during that time. The fabric breathes and the venting was excellent. The Omni-shade fabric is the way to go. I've tried many other types and brands but this one feels better. I got the color Lichen and it’s a soft sage green color I really like. One odd thing-- I kept feeling a sharp poke on the right side at my waist randomly. When I took the shirt off I discovered a hidden zipper in the side seam that is a pocket. I can find no good use for this pocket what-so-ever. It is stitched in place facing backwards not forwards. It’s only large enough to fit 3 fingers in and it is only about 4” deep. It is large enough for credit card or cash (great way to destroy both in the wash!!) It would be horribly uncomfortable for keys, too small for any cell phone, and a silly place to put anything really.

Cooling sun shirts

These shirts are very light sun shirt shirts. In fact, it kept me cool. I have worn made for 5 hours in the sun with 100% sun protection. The two pockets with Velcro closures are helpful to keep small items secure in them. I went up 1 size in mine to get a slightly loose fit. A small for me was a just right size. I am 5'4'', 34 bust and petite frame. In other Columbia shirts I have worn small to get a loose fit.

Cool, light long-sleeved shirt

This is a beautiful light-weight shirt with high sun protection that I wear when outdoors to protect my skin. There are pockets for my glasses and a radio or other necessities. The Canyon Blue color is a deeper shade than the picture but I like it very much. The Columbia Silver Ridge shirt is my favorite of that brand and I have it in many colors.

Great if you get one with the right cut to it

I would have given this item 5 stars if it was consistent in sizing. So the shirt itself is great- it’s lightweight n a was wonderful on my hiking trip to Alaska. It does the job and wicked away the sweat and water. Really my biggest complaint about it isn’t necessary about “this” particular blue shirt I got but this shirt style in general. I ordered like 6 of these shirts in different colors and would have kept way more but only kept 2 because although they were all the same SIZE they did NOT fit like each other. Some were cut way smaller where it wouldn’t even Hutton over my bust. It was kinda crazy how inconsistent the sizing was. So my advice- if you can try on in person- do so. If you can’t and have to order on here to try out- if you see a color you are just in love with- order two of the same size bc chances are one is cut tighten the other is gonna run small. I had one fit like it was a whole size smaller.

Wrinkle-resistant!

I LOVE these shirts. Wore them all summer instead of sunscreen, and they pack well- I could wear right out of my suitcase. Love the roll up sleeves and pockets!

Five star shirt, poor quality control

This is the best hiking shirt I’ve found by a mile—good moisture-wicking material, comfortable fit that allows free movement without making you look boxy or shapeless, none of the dreaded “gapping” and not too long for a petite person. If you’re a woman with some curves or a few extra covid pounds around the middle, this is the shirt you’re looking for! I tried the Tamiami style as well but returned—gapped in front even in a larger size and clearly better suited for a more straight up and down figure. Only reason I deducted 2 stars—and I don’t know if this is Columbia quality control or Amazon sending out returned items without inspecting—but I had to exchange this TWICE because I received clearly damaged items, including one with an obvious large tear in the back. Also a note about sizing—I’m usually a small or medium in Columbia stuff and this worked better for me in medium while the small was the better fit in the short sleeve version of the same style. That one was longer and wider. If you get the right size and check carefully for damage, this is a fantastic shirt and the mauve color is subtle and lovely!

Very stylish in addition to sun protection

I have bought two of these for myself, in coral and Sirus clouds, and one as a gift. They are very comfortable and stylish. I wear it as an outfit when not needing protection from the sun as well as for sun protection when on the beach or out on the boat. These shirts fit true to size.

Perfect in every way

What a beautiful shirt, and it fits as if it was made for me. So glad I went with the "small" size rather than the "extra small" size, as I have broad shoulders. The light blue colour is exactly what I was hoping for. Sometimes the colour shown on my computer screen isn't an accurate portrayal but, in this case, it was. I like this shirt so much that I'm thinking of ordering another one in a different colour.
