Excellent Metal Bottle
The bottle works very well for my needs. No major complaints. As written on the bottle, before use it needs to be cleaned thoroughly using white vinegar or baking soda. Before doing so, it had a classic metal taste. Afterward, no taste at all. The bottom of the bottle did deform itself outward after some water froze in it (increased air pressure). I used a hammer to put the bottom back into it's normal cup shape. Surprisingly it took very little force, which leads me to agree with others that it isn't the sturdiest bottle I've seen. Opening is relatively wide for easy cleaning and dropping in ice cubes. Cap is plastic with a rubber-looking gasket that seals it quite well - assuming you tighten it properly. Threads are metal on metal, so it's a necessity. Not really complaints - but good-to-knows about the nature of the bottle: * It's stainless steel, so it absorbs and releases cold/heat quite easily. Varying temperatures from ambient will make your hands cold/hot while using it, not to mention the inevitable condensation. An insulating carrying tote would be ideal - but I haven't found one for it yet. * The metal is a little soft/thin for my taste, but I'm assuming it was a trade-off of weight vs sturdiness. It will dent if banged around. * Obviously it's going to be a bit heavier than your average plastic water bottle. The carrying hole in the cap fits my middle finger perfectly, and it doesn't feel heavy when doing so. But I could see carrying it on a long walk might get tiresome. * It's a little noisy screwing it on and off - clanging of metal against metal. Again - nature of the beast. If you're not comfortable with these inherent aspects of metal bottles, you'll probably want to go plastic. If it's not an issue, this one won't disappoint.

Quality gone downhill
I bought one of these about 2 years ago, back when it came with a plastic top and you had to buy the metal top (which was blue, not black) separate. I loved it, recommended to everyone I knew, did my best to destroy it by carrying it everywhere in a city for a year and hiking in rocky forest for another, and it is still awesome. BUT THEN, I bought 4 in February for myself and a friend. Upon arrival it was clear they are different, and not just because of a different label and cap color: First - the metal inside looks like it is coated in something or a different quality, it does not have that stainless steel look. Perhaps as a consequence there was discoloration inside one - looked a bit like rust but it did not impart a rusty taste so we figured it be fine. Second - After one day of use, the plastic part of the top of one fell off. The screw into the bottle is metal, but the loop is cheaply attached plastic. The top fell off a second bottle shortly thereafter. We managed to reattach both, but it kept coming off one and soon was lost. The cap is not essential, but we need the hooks to attach them firmly to our packs (as we use them in field work) and they're hard to open and close without them. Third - there is a rubber seal at the point where the plastic of the loop attaches to the steel cap. When the plastic loop fell off, so did the seal, so now that bottle does not seal. Fourth - Those 2 of 4 without plastic top problems often leak. I think they come unscrewed just enough. My old bottle has NEVER leaked. Given 3 of 4 bottles have definite flaws, I am confident this is not a fluke, and the design (different label, different top, different metal/finish) accompanies a decrease in quality of materials and workmanship. Perhaps the company was sold, or manufacturing moved to some cheaper location. Get the old bottle if you can, even if you have to pay an extra 5 bucks to buy the blue top separately.

Strap broke quickly but otherwise great
I've been using this as my water bottle at work for over three years now. The biggest pros are that it has a large enough volume to fill up once in the morning and carry around all day, and that the mouth is wide enough to fit into an ice machine dispenser which makes it easy to fill with ice. The only negative is that the carrying strap around it is very poorly made. It started fraying almost immediately, the seams started to pull loose quickly under the weight of the full bottle, and eventually the strap itself ripped. The bottle is fine without it, though. Some other reviews mention a problem with the cap separating? Mine may be an older model, but the cap on mine is 100% plastic so there was nothing to come apart.

I Take This Everywhere!
I bought this because I drink a lot of water and don't always have time to re-fill smaller bottles. I take it everywhere. It holds enough water to last most of the day without having to refill it. I also love that it retains the temperature of cold water for a long time. I took off the strap, because it's too close to the mouth of the bottle for my liking. I was getting lip gloss and such all over it. The plastic loop at the top of the cap makes it easy enough to carry. I can imagine the strap being useful while exercising or hiking, but for my purposes it just seemed to get in the way. It can be a bit noisy when taking the cap on and off. However, the bottle usually just rests at my desk at school or work, so I usually just keep off the top if I'm sitting for long periods. It's heavy enough that it would take quite a bit of effort to knock over. I was also a bit bummed that it doesn't fit in my car's cup holder, but that wasn't something I took into account when purchasing this and it really isn't a big deal. The water has a metallic taste at first, but it goes away after a couple washes. I've been drinking a lot more water since I got this, and it's really one of the best purchases I've made in a while.

A great bottle for a great price
A great bottle for a great price. The metal cap is nice as it doesn't get slimy, mildew-y, or otherwise gross, and the seal around the top registers well. The straps that the bottle comes in are great if you're an outdoorsy person, but if you remove them, there are stains left on the bottle from the straps. Fortunately, though, these stains wash off easily with some water and soap. To get rid of the metallic smell and aftertaste of a new metal bottle, fill it with vinegar and water, and let it sit overnight, then repeat. It'll be tasteless after the second filling.

Love this bottle
I just received 2 of these bottles. Cleaned them out with diluted vinegar overnight. My only qualm is the straps. Kind of useless and bulky, but you can take them off. Problem solved.
